2016 Grand Slam of Darts – Day 4 Betting Preview

It is the final night of group matches in the Grand Slam of Darts on Tuesday evening and at the end of the evening we will know the identity of the 16 men heading into the knockout stages.

There are some big names in the four groups on show on the night who are yet to make it through so everything is set up for another dramatic night of action at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall with shocks and stories a guarantee.

Group B

We have to wait until the third match of the evening before this group resumes and when it does Dimitri van den Bergh will have a second go at trying to make the last 16. If he beats Scott Waites he’ll be through. If he doesn’t he won’t. Waites can still make it if he wins big and Robert Thornton sees off Gerwyn Price later in the night. In that match a Price win should see him through, Thornton is already through barring a huge defeat.

Group C

This group gets going with the second match of the evening as the already qualified Peter Wright takes on the young debutant Ted Evetts who is going home after this match whether he wins, loses or draws. The final match of the night is between Simon Whitlock and Jeff Smith and that is a straight knockout.

Group F

Still plenty can happen in this group. In the fourth match of the evening Nathan Aspinall takes on Danny Noppert. Aspinall is all but out while Noppert needs to better Mensur Suljovic’s result to go through. Suljovic faces Raymond Barneveld in the final match of the evening. Barneveld is already through while Suljovic has to better Noppert on the night to join him in the next round.

Group G

The Group of Death has already accounted for Dave Chisnall and he plays his final match of this year’s competition in the opening game of the night when he faces a James Wade who has already made it through. In the sixth match of the evening James Wilson meets Jamie Hughes in a straight knockout to go into the last 16.

Betting

As with all the other days and nights of this round I’m not going too big on anything. Hopefully we’ll collect on the Barneveld to win Group F bet at some point. He only needs to win a few legs to claim top spot and I’m going with one other bet to accompany that.

That comes in the form of the James Wilson against Jamie Hughes match where I like the BDO man at odds against. I’m a big fan of both these players as it goes but there is something about the Wolverhampton stage this week that hasn’t suited Wilson. He hasn’t averaged anything about 86 in the tournament yet and he’s missed an alarming amount of doubles.

Jamie Hughes is near enough at home this week living just a few miles away and he seems to be relishing that. He shot into a 3-0 lead over James Wade in his opener but couldn’t quite hold on and then he blitzed Dave Chisnall with a 106 average. Hughes looks all over the 60 bed and if that continues he has enough to come through what might be a tight and nervy game.

Tips

WON – Back J.Hughes to beat J.Wilson for a 4/10 stake at 2.10 with William Hill
