2016 Players Championship Darts Finals – Quarter Finals Betting Preview

It is the concluding day of the Players Championship Finals on Sunday with the quarter finals of the event in the afternoon which will be followed by the semi-finals and the final in the evening session down in Minehead.

The different order of merit being used this weekend has meant we have a different quarter final line up to the one we’re used to but that is no bad thing as all eight men remaining look to be playing well. Once again time restrictions are against us in previewing the semis and the final although we do have an outright still running to hopefully give us some interest in them. We’ll preview the QFs here.

Christian Kist vs Darren Webster

This is a big match for both men with neither regulars at this stage of a PDC TV event. This is actually Kist’s first PDC televised quarter final while you’re going back some for Webster’s last one so there is a huge opportunity for the pair of them here.

I’m expecting this to be fairly competitive but I’m with the former world champion here. He has been scoring really well this week and that can be an area of Webster’s game which goes AWOL which wouldn’t be ideal. The other impressive thing about Christian Kist has been his finishing and in two of his matches he won’t have had much rhythm. He should get a nice one here and I’m with Kist to win this one.

Michael van Gerwen vs Raymond Barneveld

The match of the afternoon is the second one on the card as these two Dutch darting superstars battle it out for a place in the semi-finals. Both men have looked in sensational form coming into the match although Barneveld did look to be tiring slightly on Saturday evening which would be a concern.

I want to take the 180s here and I still think the line gets covered but there is a danger Barneveld falls behind early on and doesn’t reel MVG back in which case we might run out of legs to get the required number so that puts me off that bet and allows me to sit this one out and enjoy the spectacle.

Dave Chisnall vs Robbie Green

If I was able to ignore the 180s in the previous match I can’t here. Dave Chisnall was peppering the 60 on Saturday and hit 11 of them in his win over Jelle Klaasen in the previous round while Robbie Green is a pretty prolific 180 hitter himself.

We’ve seen enough from Green in recent times to suggest he can keep this one competitive and a competitive match between these two should see lots of 180s. I would expect Chisnall’s experience to shine through here although it is by no means a certainty but I certainly expect to see more than 10.5 180s.

Kim Huybrechts vs Peter Wright

The afternoon concludes with what should be a barnstormer between two men who are no strangers to playing each other and who when they do generally they play out close, tight matches. This will be their 20th meeting and a number of their other matches have been close.

I’m expecting this one to be close too based on what we saw on Saturday when both men were in excellent form – scoring well and finishing nicely. I’m not expecting too many breaks of throw here given the quality of their scoring so over 16.5 legs looks the obvious way to go here.
