2017-18 Premier League – Final Day Betting Preview

The Premier League season draws to a close on Sunday afternoon and in truth it is a largely quiet final day with everything apart from the final Champions League spot already determined barring a mathematical miracle at the bottom end of the table.

Liverpool go into the afternoon needing just a point from their home match with Brighton to secure Champions League football next season. Chelsea must beat Newcastle and hope Liverpool lose to finish fourth themselves.

Sunday’s fixtures are as follows: (All 3pm kick offs)

Burnley v AFC Bournemouth

Crystal Palace v West Bromwich Albion

Huddersfield Town v Arsenal

Liverpool v Brighton & Hove Albion

Manchester United v Watford

Newcastle United v Chelsea

Southampton v Manchester City

Swansea City v Stoke City

Tottenham Hotspur v Leicester City

West Ham United v Everton

Big Matches

Liverpool play host to Brighton in the big match of the day. While Jurgen Klopp may not have wanted to play his first team he might have to in order to get the point his team need. Chelsea head to Newcastle looking to take advantage of any slip up from Liverpool but in reality they will have an eye on the FA Cup final having bungled a huge chance to move level on points with Liverpool in midweek. Southampton host Manchester City looking to avoid defeat or a 10 goal swing between themselves and Swansea should the Welsh side beat Stoke at the Liberty Stadium.

Best of the Rest

There will be plenty of eyes on the John Smith’s Stadium as Arsene Wenger takes charge of Arsenal for the final time when they face Huddersfield Town who may still be hungover from celebrating securing their Premier League survival on Wednesday evening. Runners up Manchester United host Watford while Tottenham welcome Leicester to Wembley aiming for the three points that would see them finish third. West Brom play their final Premier League match away to Crystal Palace.

Betting

With not a huge amount at stake this isn’t the easiest final round of matches to bet on but there is one value bet that I’m going to take. If this was a normal week I would probably take Stoke City on a handicap which is the safest way to play their match with Swansea but the 10/3 on them winning is worth a punt on the nose given that a draw does nothing for the Welsh outfit.

Swansea have scored just twice in their last eight matches and are going down with a whimper. Stoke were relegated before Swansea but they have put up much better performances in recent weeks even if their results haven’t shown it. Now they are down and can play with freedom I expect to see just what Stoke have here and that should be enough to beat a poor Swansea side who have run right out of ideas.
