2017-18 Premier League – New Year’s Eve Matches Betting Preview

2017 concludes with a double header of action in the Premier League as affairs at the top and the bottom of the division come under the spotlight over the course of the day. Manchester City have the chance to go further clear at the top while two sides at the wrong end of the table will look to ease the pressure on themselves.

Crystal Palace vs Man City

The first of the two matches comes from Selhurst Park where lowly Crystal Palace host the runaway leaders Manchester City in a match which will be interesting to see how the home side approach it tactically.

Palace go into the game off the back of a defeat to Arsenal on Thursday night and with not much time to recover the rampant league leaders are the last team they could have done with facing here. City beat Newcastle the night before but they were wasteful in front of goal.

I expect City to win this match but how many they win by will probably depend on how ruthless they are. If they are ruthless they could emulate the 5-0 win from the reverse fixture but they are starting to become sloppy at times. I’ll sit this out.

West Brom vs Arsenal

The second match of the day and the final game of 2017 sees West Brom hosting Arsenal at The Hawthorns. After Swansea’s win on Saturday, West Brom go into the contest bottom of the table so they need the points here. Arsenal also need the points to stay with the pace in the race to finish in the top four so this one should be a competitive conclusion to the year.

The Baggies have improved under Alan Pardew but they are lacking the results to back that up so now would be a good chance to begin a winning run while Arsenal are looking to build on their win over Crystal Palace on Thursday evening.

I fancy we might see some goals here. There is no point in West Brom not having a go in this one. It is almost a freebie for them in terms of picking up an unexpected result while we saw the other night that Arsenal are great going forward but still vulnerable defensively. I’ll go with over 2.5 goals in this one.
