2017-18 Premier League – Saturday 19th August Matches Betting Preview

The second weekend of the Premier League season is upon us already and we have seven matches to enjoy on a truncated Saturday this week. As ever with a Saturday the matches are spread over the usual three kick off times with some big sides in action.

Early Kick Off

The very early pacesetters Manchester United are in action in the first match of the day when they make the lengthy journey to Wales to take on a Swansea side now looking to acclimatise to life without Gylfi Sigurdsson. United will be looking to build on their 4-0 win over West Ham on the opening day.

3pm Matches

All eyes will be on Liverpool in the usual kick off time on Saturday. They host a Crystal Palace side who were battered by Huddersfield Town last week and need a response at Anfield. Liverpool will be looking to make up for dropping points at Watford.

In the other games Bournemouth play host to the aforementioned Watford while Burnley play their first home game against West Brom a week after knocking off the champions Chelsea. Leicester take on promoted Brighton and West Ham head to Southampton in a match they should be at home in but had to switch it to St Mary’s with the London Stadium out of use.

Late Game

The final match of the day sees two sides who had different results in the opening weekend go against each other when Stoke, who lost at Everton last weekend, host Arsenal, who came from behind to see off Leicester on the opening night, at the Bet365 Stadium.

Betting

There are two bets I like across the course of Saturday. I made an awful lot of money backing Burnley in home matches last season and I am keeping with them this week in light of West Brom’s defensive absences. If Burnley can’t be full of confidence after going to the champions and winning they never will be and while West Brom won last week they had to rely on a defender to score. Burnley generally defend set-pieces well so they could cancel the Baggies out. With all the draw cover required at this stage of the season I’m with the hosts here.

The other bet I like is on a Leicester side who didn’t do much wrong at Arsenal other than perhaps drop too deep late on but the Brighton attack is nothing like the Arsenal one so I don’t expect the Foxes backline to be as tested in this game. The one thing we saw in that match at the Emirates was the attacking quality of Leicester and I think they have enough goals in them to win this and win it well.
