2017-18 Premier League – Sunday 27th August Matches Betting Preview

The final day of Premier League matches before the first international break takes place on Sunday and it is quite a busy one as there are four fixtures on the card. Among the sides in action we last three of last season’s top four including the champions Chelsea so this should be a great day of football.

As ever on a Sunday afternoon, two of the matches are live on the TV in the UK and there are ways to keep up with the other matches as well. We’ll preview them in kick off order beginning with the first TV game.

West Brom vs Stoke

Two sides not used to being the centre of attention meet in the opening match of the afternoon when West Brom take on Stoke at The Hawthorns. West Brom have quietly maintained a 100% through the opening two matches while Stoke won last week and have something to build on.

It is hard to see this match being an open one. West Brom are largely defensively orientated and sound and Stoke are solid at the back too. It could be that one goal settles this but these aren’t the sort of matches I like punting in so I will leave this alone although the centre backs on show are worth a nibble anytime.

Chelsea vs Everton

Two good sides meet in the second match of the afternoon when the champions Chelsea look to put that horrible first home game behind them when they take on an Everton side, who have been running up the air miles over the last week.

Everton’s travels should give Chelsea the edge in this one but at cramped prices I’m reluctant to get rushing in to back them with that Burnley calamity still in the back of my mind. I expect Chelsea to win and I wouldn’t be surprised if they win well but I respect Everton enough to just let the champions win.

Liverpool vs Arsenal

The match of the day comes from Anfield without a doubt as Liverpool, buoyed from qualifying for the Champions League in midweek host an Arsenal who are out to prove a point in an early season cracker.

It would be a surprise if this match is not wide open. Neither team can defend and look vulnerable every time they are attacked but both retain possession well enough and have the movement up front to cause havoc within those defences. It wasn’t too much earlier than this that these two met at the Emirates last season and that ended 4-3 to Liverpool. I wouldn’t be surprised with a similar score here.

Tottenham vs Burnley

Tottenham have an immediate chance to put last week’s defeat to Chelsea behind them when they host a Burnley side looking for another huge scalp having taken care of the champions in the opening match of the campaign.

Tottenham should win this but I’m not convinced I will have it in me to back them in a single home match this season. Every visiting team will be inspired when they play at Wembley and Spurs have to fight that in each game. If Tottenham win then so be it but unless anyone wants to throw a couple of quid at Burnley at a huge price this looks like one to leave alone to me.
