2017-18 Premier League – Swansea City vs Liverpool Betting Preview

The latest round of Premier League matches concludes in Wales on Monday night when Swansea City host Liverpool in an important Monday Night Football at the Liberty Stadium.

Both sides are in need of the points from this match so we are guaranteed a competitive game although the odds suggest much of the quality and the goals will be firmly in the favour of the visitors.

Swansea City

Having seen those immediately around them all pick up points this weekend Swansea could really do with a result of some kind here. A win would see them move to within three points of safety and really give themselves a chance of survival over the remainder of the campaign. Defeat leaves them six points from safety and they would face an uphill task.

In fairness to Swansea they have been much more competitive since Carlos Carvalhal came in and with four points from their last three matches they are improving. This would be their biggest test thus far and in fairness they are not going to stay up based on their results in these matches so they can have a bit of a go.

Liverpool

You would think Liverpool would be full of confidence heading down to South Wales after they demolished Manchester City last week. The end scoreline probably flattered City in that match but for much of it Liverpool were rampant and a similar performance here is likely to be more than enough to bag the three points.

The one thing the Reds need to guard against is the comedown from a big performance in a high profile match but the fact that they have had eight days since that win and given that this match is the only game on the evening they should be focused enough to put up another decent showing. They beat Swansea 5-0 on Boxing Day so should be fancying their chances here.

Team News

Swansea are likely to remain without Tammy Abraham who is still injured but they do have Kyle Naughton back from suspension and he could join Mike van der Hoorn in returning to the side.

Liverpool could give a Premier League debut to Virgil van Dijk while Mo Salah is expected to be fit to start the game but Jordan Henderson is again set to miss the contest.

Betting

As with most Liverpool matches I’m fancying goals in this game. The line is three goals which is a nice one because if Liverpool get going they could cover this on their own as we’ve seen them so at Bournemouth and Brighton recently. They also scored three at Arsenal not too long ago.

That said you always fancy Liverpool will concede so it would be no surprise if Swansea contribute to the goals total, especially with the greatest purpose that Carvalhal has brought to their attacking play so over 3 goals is my bet in this one.
