2017-18 Premier League – Swansea City vs Southampton Betting Preview

We are into the last week of the Premier League season and it begins on Tuesday night with what can only be described as a six pointer when Swansea City play host to Southampton in a huge clash for both sides.

The match is huge because Swansea occupy the final relegation spot going into the match while Southampton are above them just on goal difference so were either to win this clash it would have serious implications on who stays up and who goes down.

Swansea City

A few weeks ago it looked as though Swansea City would ease to safety. They were in great form under a mercurial manager in Carlos Carvalhal. Wins over Arsenal and Liverpool looked to be easing them to survival but it has gone a bit pear shaped in recent times and with no win in seven they are staring at relegation once again.

The big problem in those matches is they have scored just twice in the seven games. If they are to get the points needed to survive in their final two matches they simply have to find a way to find the back of the net more regularly. To be fair, the defeat to Man City aside, they are rarely beaten out of sight but that is little consolation at this stage of the season.

Southampton

The Saints are almost the exact reverse of their opponents in this match. They looked to be meekly surrendering to a return to the Championship but in the last four or five matches they have clicked into gear and found some good performances and results which has allowed them to escape from the drop zone for now.

They go into this match knowing that with the goal difference advantage they have on Swansea, a win here will all but secure Premier League football for another season. Unlike Swansea, Southampton are scoring goals at the minute but what they are not doing is keeping clean sheets. They also need to get over the blow of losing a lead so late on at Everton on Saturday.

Team News

Kyle Barkley is the only absentee from the Swansea City squad for this match but it would not be a surprise if Carlos Carvalhal makes changes to his side in order to get more goal threat in his attacking play.

Maya Yoshida will miss out for Southampton after he was sent off in the draw with Everton at the weekend. Mario Lemina and Steven Davis are both doubtful with injuries so the spine of the Saints side could be a youthful one.

Betting

This match could go one of two ways. It will either be a very nervy and tense affair with neither side wanting to make the mistake that gifts the other the advantage in which case we could get a low scoring contest or someone will be brave enough to take the game to the opposition and if there is an early goal this could catapult into something crazy in terms of scoreline.

The bet I like in this one is for both teams to score. Even money on this outcome is decent enough given the circumstances surrounding it. Once one side finds the back of the net the other side is going to have to come out and look to level the scores as a defeat would be catastrophic for the pair of them. You wouldn’t back either side to preserve a lead so both to score looks the right way to go about this one.
