2017-18 Premier League – Watford vs Chelsea Betting Preview

An entertaining weekend in the Premier League draws to a close with the Monday Night Football which sees two London sides doing battle in a match which carries plenty of storylines heading into it as Watford host Chelsea at Vicarage Road.

Chelsea saw the two sides immediately below them drop points on Sunday afternoon and they will be looking to take advantage here while Watford will just be looking for any sort of elusive win no matter how it comes.

Watford

Either side of sacking Marco Silva the Hornets have gone on a run of one win in their last 10 matches and that is a run that will need to end soon else Javi Gracia’s stint in charge at Vicarage Road will be a short lived one. In fairness to him he picked up a draw in his first game in the hotseat and he will look for his first win in his first home game in charge.

You sense for it to happen Watford are going to need to tighten up in the back line. Although they kept a clean sheet last week they had shipped nine in four matches prior to that and generally when they have come up against the better sides this season they have leaked freely. At the other end they carry a threat at least.

Chelsea

If reports are correct Antonio Conte’s next defeat as Chelsea boss will be his last. That comes after they were well beaten in their last match when Bournemouth won 3-0 at Stamford Bridge. That exposed a number of weaknesses in the Chelsea set up and it will be interesting to see what their response is here.

Injuries have not helped Chelsea in recent times but they have made some questionable decisions along the way too. There appears to be a rift between Conte and the owners and powers that be which is starting to have an effect on the Blues on the pitch which can never be good. They need a convincing win to put some doubters to bed.

Team News

Watford are missing some big players with Tom Cleverley the latest man to join those on the sidelines while they will have to do without new signing Didier Ndong as he is serving the final match of a suspension.

Alvaro Morata remains out with injury for Chelsea while Conte suggested that Olivier Giroud is not fit to play either. Andreas Christiansen is expected to miss the match too but Willian and David Luiz could be involved in some way.

Betting

Given the state of these two sides currently I think we might see a few goals in this game. We usually see goals when these two meet with their last two meetings yielding no fewer than 13 goals. We might not see a goal total to that extent but they can certainly flow.

Both are missing key players in their back line and both teams are under pressure to pick up a win and ease some of the negativity around them which should see us get an open game and one where over 2.5 goals lands safely enough.
