2017-18 Premier League – West Ham vs Stoke City Betting Preview

The Premier League weekend concludes with the Monday Night Football this week and it is an extremely significant match at the bottom end of the table when West Ham United host Stoke City at the London Stadium.

We now know who the champions are this season and on Monday we could be closer to finding out the identity of the three sides dropping out of the division. Both these sides are in the bottom six at the start of play so a win could be crucial for both.

West Ham

The Hammers have done enough to get their heads above water and they are keeping themselves at a decent distance from them but it is still so congested below them that with a couple of wins the Londoners could easily be dragged back into trouble so this is a really important match for them.

Despite struggling at their new stadium, West Ham are actually going quite nicely at the London Stadium in recent times. Their only defeat in their last five at home was on that crazy day when it all kicked off against Burnley and for long spells of that match they were on top. They go in here off the back of a big win over Southampton and a creditable draw at Chelsea last week.

Stoke City

If there is such a thing as a season to forget this has very much been it for the Potters. Once again they started it slowly although that in itself is nothing new but this time they have not been able to find some consistent form and as a result they have not been able to get themselves out of trouble. They now sit six points from safety with five matches left so a win here is imperative.

The statistics would suggest that while they might crave a win, it might be difficult to come by. Stoke have only won one away game all season and are the worst team in the division on their travels. That has to change here else you get the feeling their destiny will be out of their own hands. As it is even with a win here they will probably need three more in their last four.

Team News

Andy Carroll, Manuel Lanzini and James Collins could all return for West Ham at just the right time but David Moyes will be without Winston Reid and Pedro Obiang as he looks for a win which could see the Hammers move up to twelfth.

Stoke City boss Paul Lambert has declared he has no fresh injury concerns to deal with for the journey to the capital which could see him name an unchanged side despite a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham last time out.

Betting

I think West Ham are good things here. Stoke might be performing better and talking a better game but the fact is they haven’t won in nine and their record and their form away from home is absolutely terrible and there is no getting away from that.

The off field stories and troubles would have you think that West Ham are in crisis and playing terribly but actually what we are seeing from them on the field is not reflective of that. They are actually playing better than their league position and with key players coming back I expect the home side to get the win they need to as good as secure their safety.
