2017-18 Sky Bet League 2 – Morecambe vs Yeovil Betting Preview

The third set of League 2 fixtures of the four over the Christmas and New Year period gets underway on Friday night when two sides at the bottom end of the table meet as Morecambe host Yeovil Town at the Globe Arena.

Both sides have already played two matches over the festive period so fitness and performance levels will be severely tested in both squads in this third match in just six days.

Morecambe

It has not been a good Christmas period so far for Morecambe as they have begun it with successive defeats which extends their losing run to three matches. Their Christmas has been tough though. They have faced pre-season title favourites Mansfield and high-flying Notts County in their two matches but have been well beaten.

They have had players missing for some of Christmas and funnily enough that might not be a bad thing if they are ready to return here as this stupid schedule is going to test the stronger sides in the division let alone those without the resources of some. Morecambe are ones who will be tested over the next few days.

Yeovil

It has been the exact opposite for Yeovil in this Christmas period. They have won both matches and they were very good wins too against a solid Exeter side and at a Cheltenham outfit who have been pretty good on their own patch this season. Those victories should have given them plenty of confidence to head to Lancashire with.

Those results were needed because the Glovers haven’t been able to get any consistency going. Their away form had been especially poor and the win at Cheltenham on Boxing Day was just the second victory they have picked up on the road all campaign. A win for Yeovil will move them ten points clear of the drop here.

Team News

Callum Lang will be pushing for a start after coming off the bench to net a consolation goal on Boxing Day. Kevin Ellison is fit again and could come into the side as could Michael Rose.

Yeovil will be without their captain James Bailey who suffered suspected ligament damage at Cheltenham on Boxing Day. Olufela Olomola is available having recovered from illness.

Betting

There are going to be a lot of difficult matches to call over the next two fixture lists as fitness and freshness are tested to the full and this is very much one of those as two of the sides with lesser resources do battle. Both might be inconvenienced by the game being on the Friday night too.

With all that in mind I don’t think this is one to bet on. Form over Christmas so far would probably point to Yeovil if we were going to take anything but their away form is still poor despite Tuesday’s win so I’ll sit this one out.
