2017-18 Sky Bet League 2 – New Year’s Day Matches Betting Preview

2018 begins in the way it should do with a full set of matches in Sky Bet League 2. In fairness to the 24 sides on show on Monday it is a brutal schedule and this is a round of fixtures they could probably all do without but three valuable points are up for grabs on what should be a big day in the division.

New Year’s Day fixtures are as follows:

Accrington Stanley v Morecambe

Barnet v Swindon Town

Colchester United v Cambridge United

Coventry City v Chesterfield

Crewe Alexandra v Grimsby Town

Forest Green Rovers v Wycombe Wanderers

Luton Town v Lincoln City

Mansfield Town v Carlisle United

Newport County v Exeter City

Notts County v Port Vale

Stevenage v Cheltenham Town

Yeovil Town v Crawley Town

Big Matches

The big match of the afternoon comes from Kenilworth Road when the leaders Luton Town look to bounce back from their mauling at Port Vale when they host third placed Lincoln City. Second placed Notts County take on the aforementioned Port Vale while Exeter City head across the Severn Bridge to take on Newport County.

Best of the Rest

Forest Green and Barnet both face tough home tests as they look to pull away from danger. Forest Green host Wycombe while Barnet take on a Swindon side who should be buoyed from beating Notts County on Saturday. Two sides in the play-offs places have winnable home matches as Coventry host Chesterfield and Accrington welcome Morecambe to the Wham Stadium.

Betting

Swindon are the best side in the division away from home and they have a big enough squad to make any changes that might be needed to cope with the hectic schedule. After a win against Notts County at the weekend they should have their confidence back after that brutal beating Luton dished out to them and I fancy that they can build on Saturday’s victory when they head to Barnet. Barnet are one of the worst sides at home and not particularly good anywhere. They have lost eight of their last 10 matches and the confidence Swindon exude on the road I fancy that will be nine of 11 come 5pm.

Colchester are in decent form at the minute with just one defeat in their last 12 and that was a narrow loss away to Notts County who were top of the league at the time. They take on a Cambridge side who in fairness have had a good Christmas but who will be without Jabo Ibehre here and in fairness while they’ve gone well over the busy period home wins against Barnet and Crewe aren’t going to tell us too much. Colchester have beaten Swindon and Exeter while drawing with Port Vale in their last three home games. They are all good results and I fancy them to pick up another positive one here.
