2017-18 Sky Bet League 2 – Saturday 14th April Betting Preview

We are into the final few matches of the Sky Bet League 2 season but there is still plenty of things to be decided. A full fixture list on Saturday could see some of the outstanding issues be determined including at the top of the table.

Many sides will have just three matches left in their season after these games so it will be vital for everyone in action to pick up points for any quests they have left undetermined. It all promises to be a dramatic day in the division.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated)

Chesterfield v Mansfield Town (1pm)

Accrington Stanley v Exeter City

Cheltenham Town v Forest Green Rovers

Colchester United v Notts County

Crawley Town v Coventry City

Grimsby Town v Barnet

Luton Town v Crewe Alexandra

Morecambe v Carlisle United

Newport County v Swindon Town

Port Vale v Lincoln City

Stevenage v Cambridge United

Yeovil Town v Wycombe Wanderers

Big Matches

There are two absolutely huge matches at either end of the table on Saturday. At the top end of it Accrington Stanley will be promoted to the third tier for the first time in their history if they can beat Exeter City at the Wham Stadium. At the other end of the pile two sides deep in the relegation mix meet at Blundell Park as Grimsby Town play host to Barnet. Chesterfield, bottom of the table going into the weekend, host Mansfield in the early kick off.

Best of the Rest

Second placed Luton can move to the edge of promotion if they can see off Crewe at Kenilworth Road while Wycombe in third head to Yeovil looking to take advantage of any slip ups behind them. Lincoln will look to build on their Wembley win when they head to Port Vale while Coventry City and Swindon Town face trips to Crawley and Newport respectively.

Betting

I’ll go with two over the course of the afternoon and I’ll begin in the early kick off where Chesterfield may well be underrated by the bookmakers when they entertain Mansfield Town. Chesterfield have a good record against the better sides on their own patch this term. They have beaten Luton, Notts County, Swindon and Exeter at the Proact this season and the way Mansfield have completely fallen apart the Spireites can pick up another decent scalp. Mansfield are now nine matches without a win so as the outsiders Chesterfield are the play in the early game.

At Kenilworth Road I expect the goals to flow. If Luton were having a wobble it is well and truly behind them now while we saw last season that Crewe are able to play with freedom and let their football do the talking after a season of turmoil off the field due to past events. Luton have spoken of how they have not given the title up yet while James Collins and Danny Hylton are both eager to reel in Billy Kee in the goalscoring charts so we know they will be on the front foot and if Crewe do go and play that will play right into their hands. Whether Luton score the lot needed to cover the 2.75 goal line or Crewe chip in too I do fancy the overs to land in this one.
