2017-18 Sky Bet League 2 – Saturday 6th January Matches Betting Preview

With the third round of the FA Cup taking place this weekend the fixture list in League 2 has been decimated by sides involved in the major competition. That has left us with just four matches in the basement division on Saturday with the battle at the bottom in more focus.

Saturday’s fixtures are as follows:

Accrington Stanley v Chesterfield

Colchester United v Cheltenham Town

Forest Green Rovers v Port Vale

Grimsby Town v Morecambe

Overview

The highest side on show on Saturday are Colchester United. They are one outside the play-off places but a two goal win over Cheltenham will see them leap frog up to third in the table. Accrington are a couple of places below Colchester and they too can boost their league position if they can get past Chesterfield.

The bottom side are also in action on Saturday when Forest Green Rovers host a Port Vale side who have shown plenty of improvement since Neil Aspin took over. Two canny sides are Grimsby Town and Morecambe. They have brought their match from later in the season forward to meet on Saturday.

Betting

There is only one bet I like on Saturday and it comes from the New Lawn where having seen Port Vale last week I like them to see off Forest Green. You would think at some point this month Forest Green will start to improve given the numbers they are bringing into their squad but that might not happen this quickly.

Port Vale saw a decent Christmas run of form end when they were narrowly beaten late on at Notts County but that was only to a Jon Stead penalty so they shouldn’t be too disheartened by that. Prior to that they took Luton to the cleaners and if their performance here is anything close to that one they will have too much for a poor Forest Green outfit, Doidge aside.

Tips

Back Port Vale to beat Forest Green for a 4/10 stake at 1.87 with Coral
