We are getting into the business end of the League 2 season and on Tuesday we have four more matches which will either make the landscape clearer or muddy the waters further as we race towards the conclusion of what has been an interesting season.
Tuesday’s matches are as follows:
Accrington Stanley v Morecambe
Cheltenham Town v Notts County
Mansfield Town v Lincoln City
Newport County v Forest Green Rovers
Accrington Stanley can move to within a point of leaders Luton if they beat Morecambe at the Wham Stadium and then the two sides meet at the weekend. Mansfield have the chance to break into the top three when they host Lincoln, who look like they have more than an eye on Wembley next month. It will be the first match since Steve Evans left Mansfield and David Flitcroft took over.
Notts County are the other side who will be aiming to burst back into the top three. They go to Cheltenham with the pressure beginning to increase. There is all sorts of talk that the Magpies are going to bring a Spanish player in on £15k a week so they are desperate to go up and need to win here. The other match sees a fading Newport County playing host to Forest Green Rovers who are pulling themselves away from danger.
I was tempted to take Cheltenham to see off Notts County but there is something about that match which doesn’t sit pretty with me so I will leave that alone and focus more on events down in Wales where I like the visitors, Forest Green Rovers.
Since that double header with Tottenham in the FA Cup, Newport County have completely gone off the boil. You have to go back to January 19 for the last time they won in the league which was some six matches ago and there are clear signs that they are beginning to struggle. The additions Forest Green made in January look to have had the right effect and they head across the Severn Bridge with three wins in their last four matches. I expect them to maintain that unbeaten run here.
