The first group finishes in the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday and by the end of the evening we will know the two sides who go through to the knockout stages from Group A of the competition.
Gabon, Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Guinea-Bissau are all fighting for the two qualification spots on what should be an exciting day in Africa. Both matches kick off at the same time.
Gabon vs Cameroon
The two heavyweights in this group collide in a match where the winner will go through and in all likelihood the loser will be eliminated from the competition so the stakes are high here. Cameroon will be safe with a draw.
You have to think that Gabon are going to deliver their best performance here. They need to do that and they need to play on the front foot which could well open up the potential for some goals in this one. Both sides have had no problem finding the back of the net while they have struggled to keep them out but there is something about the match which tells me it might not be that simple.
I’m on Gabon outright so we need them to win the match so I’ll sit and watch how this one plays out rather than invest even more on the game.
Guinea-Bissau vs Burkina Faso
It is do or die for these two sides now. Both sides need to win to have any chance of going through. Burkina Faso are through with a win while Guinea-Bissau will qualify themselves should they win and Gabon not win.
Credit to Guinea-Bissau for offering what they have in this tournament so far but I think their run ends here. Burkina Faso are pretty established at this level currently and having held Gabon and Cameroon to score draws I think this is the match they come alive and pick up the win to take them into the next stage.
The longer the match went on against Cameroon the more Guinea-Bissau visibly tired and that is a trend I expect to continue here. I think Burkina Faso are good enough to take advantage of that so the even money on The Stallions looks good to me.
