The so called ‘Group of Death’ resumes in the Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday which means we get to see two of the fancied sides for the tournament back in action as Algeria and Senegal will be playing on what should be an excellent day of football in Gabon.
Algeria vs Tunisia
The day gets underway with a North African battle between the highest ranked side in Africa in Algeria and Tunisia. Both sides will be needing to win the game given their failure to win their opening match and that should ensure a competitive and open match.
There were times in the first match when Algeria looked fantastic going forward but for all their strengths in that department they looked exposed at the back time and time again and the same words can be said for Tunisia albeit they didn’t find the goals Algeria did.
I don’t think the goals are going to stop between these two in this one. Both need to win which should ensure they try and play on the front foot and given how loose both defences look I expect the goals to flow in this one.
Senegal vs Zimbabwe
Before a ball was kicked in this group you would be forgiven for thinking that this would be a comfortable win for Senegal. That might still be right but Zimbabwe offered enough in their draw with Algeria to suggest they won’t go down without a fight and a good deal of quality. Senegal looked every bit the side most people expected them to be against Tunisia.
I expect the goals to flow here too. Zimbabwe clearly set their stall out to do after Algeria and there is no reason why they won’t do the same here while Senegal have goals right throughout them so this is another match which should carry plenty of goal threat.
My main bet will be on the overs but I think Senegal will be good enough to win the game but not before Zimbabwe score so I can’t resist a small punt on Senegal to win and both to score.
