2017 British Masters Golf – Final Round Betting Preview

The final round of the British Masters takes place on Sunday and we are set for a wonderful conclusion to what has been a brilliant week of golf. The is a huge home presence on the leaderboard head into the last 18 holes but it is a Swede who takes a one shot lead into the closing round.

Saturday Recap

That Swede is Robert Karlsson who is looking for a first tour title in a long time. He is one shot ahead on 12 under but this is a bunched up leaderboard with five players a shot back on eleven under and five more on ten under. Those on eleven under include our pre-tournament pick Graeme Storm while two more of our outright bets are in the nine under group. They are Matthew Fitzpatrick and Chris Wood. All three have genuine chances on Sunday.

The supporting cast are going to be very strong in the final round with Ian Poulter, Tyrrell Hatton and Paul Dunne one back from the lead and a certain Rory McIlroy stalking from two off the pace. Tournament host Lee Westwood is three back on nine under par.

Sunday Betting

Given that we have the outright market pretty well covered I don’t think there is a need to go back in that. If Storm can put in a good closing round he is going to have every chance of landing a three figure punt but we’ve got two who are capable of going low from just off the pace too should we need them. With that in mind I’ll head to the other markets for a Sunday bet.

Sunday 3 balls

The field are out in three balls on Sunday with the leading trio teeing off at 11.25. That is the group of Robert Karlsson, Richie Ramsay and Paul Dunne. That is the one I like from a betting point of view but the crowds may well decide to go with the Poulter, Storm and Hatton group or even the McIlroy, Coetzee, Lingmerth grouping.

Robert Karlsson/Paul Dunne/Richie Ramsay

Match tees off at 11.25 BST

The leading trio go out with the best chance of winning the tournament but it will be interesting to see if any of them can get over the line. Robert Karlsson has a decent record with the 54 hole lead to be fair but he hasn’t held it for a long time and hasn’t won for a while either.

With the wind expected to blow strongly as well and nerves and dodgy ball striking will be amplified. You would think Paul Dunne would have plenty of nerves kicking around with him looking for a maiden tour victory. He is a good player in the wind but the final round butterflies is a big concern.

I’m not sure if Richie Ramsay will win the tournament but I do think he has a leading chance of winning this three ball as much by default as anything else. We know he can play in the windy conditions and he’s won a few times on tour so the magnitude of the occasion shouldn’t concern him. His tee to green stats are very good this week so I think he has the beating of the other two if not this bunched leaderboard.
