2017 China Open Snooker Qualifying – Day 1 Betting Preview

The snooker calendar is back up and running after the Christmas break and after an exciting week at The Masters the 128 man tour head up to Preston for the China Open qualifiers.

64 men will end up heading to China for the main stages of this tournament but before they can get there they have to secure their spot by coming through one qualifying match over the next four days. Some big names are on show in the three sessions on Tuesday looking to do just that. All matches are the best of nine frames.

Morning Session

There are six matches in each session with the Indian Open champion Anthony McGill the biggest name on show first up. He faces Peter Lines. Martin Gould meets Lee Walker in this session and the other games see Jamie Jones facing Eden Sharav, Dominic Dale plays Ross Muir, Robbie Williams goes up against Jamie Barrett and Ken Doherty meets Allan Taylor.

Afternoon Session

Anthony Hamilton is in action in this session. He takes on Ashley Hugill while The Masters finalist Joe Perry is back in centre stage when he plays David John. The man Perry beat in the semi-final in London, Barry Hawkins, meets Aditya Mehta with the other three matches seeing Luca Brecel play Andy Hicks, Dechawat Poomjaeng faces Hossein Vafaei Ayouri and Tian Pengfei goes up against Ian Preece.

Evening Session

The action concludes with five more matches as Mike Dunn faces Elliot Slessor, Kurt Maflin plays fellow high scorer Adam Duffy, Ben Woollaston goes up against Igor Figueiredo while Shaun Muprhy takes on Sydney Wilson. Jack Lisowski meets Alex Borg in the other match in the session.

Betting

As I always mention in these qualifying events or hectic days of action it is important to pick our poison wisely and it is vital to remember that for all the big names it is just about qualifying rather than covering big handicaps.

With all of that in mind I’m going to take one bet to get us going on Tuesday. Jack Lisowski has been back on twitter this week and he has been saying how he has been practicing well and that bodes well given that he takes on the limited Alex Borg in this session.

In fairness to Lisowski he was improving nicely on the season prior to Christmas. He had a good run in Northern Ireland where Joe Perry was among his victims and I fancy the Englishman to come through here. Alex Borg has only won three matches all season thus far and I don’t think he’ll win this. He tends to struggle against scorers and Lisowski is one of those. I’m with Jack to come through with a bit to spare here.

Tips

Back J.Lisowski (-2.5 frames) to beat A.Borg for a 4/10 stake at 2.20 with Skybet
