2017 Confederations Cup – Germany vs Cameroon Betting Preview

Germany head into their final Confederations Cup Group B match with Cameroon in Sochi on Sunday knowing they only need a point to progress but if they want to win the group they need to better Chile’s result and their goal difference. Cameroon have to win by at least two to have any chance of going through so this is nicely set up.

Germany

We all know by now that this is a second string squad for the world champions but they are still unbeaten in this tournament and they might be getting better as they go along. We shouldn’t be surprised by that of course. Most sides do improve the longer an event goes but it could be even more the case here.

That is because these players won’t have been used to playing with each other but the more minutes they spend on the pitch the more natural it will become and the better they will get. That is a warning for the others should they do enough to get through in this match as they are fully expected to do.

Cameroon

The African champions must be really disappointed to only have one point so far. They should have beaten Australia last time out but bungled a host of glorious chances and ended up dropping what could be two valuable points especially as it means they need to win this by a significant margin to have a chance of progression.

I don’t think Cameroon are as good defensively as they were in the Africa Cup of Nations. One reason for that of course is they are up against better sides here but a couple of key players from that squad aren’t here which never helps. The big concern is no matter how good a position they get into they don’t convince when it comes to scoring.

Team News

Joachim Low has intimated that he will make a few changes to his side for this match although the only player he confirmed would come in is Antonio Rudiger. He gets in for his pace.

Cameroon may want to freshen things up in the forward areas with goals seemingly hard to come by at the minute.

Betting

Cameroon are going to have to take risks in this match if they are serious about qualifying which they should be and that might well suit Germany. I think the Germans have been getting better throughout this tournament.

In the second half against Chile a talented Chilean attack barely got a look in so that suggests Germany can snuff out Cameroon here while the Germans look like they’ve got goals in them and that likelihood increases if the Africans gamble and send men forward. Germany have stressed they want to win the group and remain in Sochi so I expect them to look to win the game and I fancy them to win well too.
