The European Darts Trophy comes to a close on Sunday on what promises to be a really top quality day of darts with the level of player left in the tournament. As ever on the final day of these things the last 16 gets played out in the afternoon while the evening session will contain the latter stages of the event.
The majority of the big names made it through Saturday’s action with the likes of Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright, Michael Smith, Simon Whitlock and Dave Chisnall all through to Sunday. As ever time restrictions will deny us the chance to preview the evening session but we do have an outright still in the tournament who will hopefully survive to give us some interest in it. We can preview the last 16 and that’s what we’ll do here.
First Four Matches
The action will kick off with Michael Smith taking on the form horse of the moment in Jonny Clayton before our outright pick Rob Cross takes on Keegan Brown for a place in the quarter final. Dave Chisnall is next onto the stage when he faces Jelle Klaasen in what should be a cracking contest. Peter Wright then plays Kim Huybrechts in what should be another.
Last Four Matches
After the interval the big names keep on coming. Simon Whitlock will be onto the stage when he takes on Jan Dekker before Andy Boulton goes up against Vincent van der Voort in a battle of the qualifiers. The penultimate match of the round will be between Alan Norris and Joe Cullen with the action in the afternoon concluding with arguably the battle of the session as Michael van Gerwen takes on a rejuvenated Stephen Bunting.

Betting
I’m going with just the one bet in the afternoon session and it is on Joe Cullen who I expect to increase his 3-1 head to head lead on Alan Norris. I’m not surprised that their record is like that because Cullen is a very underrated scorer and he will normally be more reliable on the doubles than Norris will.
To be fair when Norris does pin his doubles he is a match for anyone but he has always been hit and miss in that area and against someone as solid and as consistent as Cullen you can’t afford it. I expect the Yorkie to take advantage of any misses from Chuck in this one.
