2017 European Darts Trophy – Last 32 Betting Preview

The European Darts Trophy really kicks into life on Saturday when the 16 seeded players enter the tournament in the last 32 of the competition. As ever the entire round will be played across the two sessions of action with some really tasty matches in store for us over the course of the entire day.

The likes of Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright, Daryl Gurney and Simon Whitlock enter the fray during the 16 matches we are being treated to on Saturday.

Afternoon Session

In an excellent afternoon it is Benito van de Pas and Keegan Brown who get us underway. Alan Norris plays James Richardson in the next match of the afternoon before the all-Welsh battle between Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton. The final match before the interval sees Michael Smith facing Jermaine Wattimena.

The first match after the break could be the tie of the round when Dave Chisnall meets James Wilson. Joe Cullen plays Steve West in the following match while another juicy clash comes up afterwards when Ian White plays Vincent van der Voort. The afternoon concludes with Stephen Bunting taking on the home man Rene Eidams.

Evening Session

Kim Huybrechts has the honour of leading us away in the evening session when he plays Nathan Aspinall. Jelle Klaasen then follows him when he faces Chris Dobey before Rob Cross meets Jamie Caven. We reach the interval after a battle between Peter Wright and the local player Martin Schindler who was in excellent form in the first round.

A cracking looking contest between Simon Whitlock and Krzysztof Ratajski gets things back underway before Michael van Gerwen will meet Zoran Lerchbacher. The final two matches of the round sees Mervyn King facing Jan Dekker and Daryl Gurney going up against an Andy Boulton who took care of Kevin Painter in the previous round.

Betting

I’m going to take a chance on a couple of outsiders over the course of Saturday. Jonny Clayton looks very much overpriced to me against Gerwyn Price. I’m not for one minute suggesting that Clayton should be the favourite but we know he is in excellent form and we’ve seen a few times in recent times that when the chips are down he can get after himself. Clayton arrived in this tournament in good touch having won a Players Championship event in midweek and he won through on Friday too. He’s just too big for me to ignore here.

Moving into the evening session and I’m not sure what is going on with Kim Huybrechts at the minute but he appears to be in something of a slump right now. Nathan Aspinall should be high on life. He became a dad at the start of the week and then on Friday he gave out a 6-1 beating to James Wade. He wasn’t as fantastic in that match as you might have thought given the scoreline but he was good enough and a repeat could be all that is needed to see off the Belgian.
