The final group to begin in the Gold Cup is Group C and it does so on Sunday evening into the early hours of Monday morning UK time with all eyes on Mexico to see how the tournament favourites start their campaign.
We also get to see Jamaica, the runners up two years ago, in action on what should be an entertaining night of football in San Diego.

Curacao vs Jamaica
The first match of the two on Sunday is a repeat of the Caribbean Cup final as Curacao take on Jamaica. Curacao won that tournament much to the surprise of many and will be looking for a repeat here while Jamaica will want revenge.
This isn’t the Jamaica side who made the final of this tournament two years ago or indeed the one that competed in the Copa America last year. It is a poor imitation of that as evidenced by the fact they didn’t even make the final six of World Cup qualifying in this part of the world.
Curacao are a side on the up and have a couple of players who ply their trade in England in their ranks and a few based in Holland too and they could be the spoilers here. There have been no signs that Jamaica are under improvement here so I’ll take the minnows in this one.
Mexico vs El Salvador
The final match in the first set of fixtures in the tournament sees the defending champions Mexico get their title defence underway when they take on El Salvador in a match they are expected to win.
It would be a major shock if they don’t win this match but the match prices and the Asian lines are very prohibitive it must be said especially when a more senior Mexican side were playing in Russia this time last week.
I think rather than chance Mexico I’m going to sit this one out and see just what their strength is like while assessing the abilities of El Salvador with a view to getting more involved in this group later in the week.
