The opening day of the Indian Open out in Visakhapatnam sees no fewer than 20 matches on the schedule as a hectic week gets underway at a fast pace. Such is the snooker world these days it is all go and fast paced action and Tuesday will be no different out in Asia.
With the held over matches from the qualifying round taking place on Tuesday and the first round of the event beginning there are some decent names on show first up in the tournament which will make for some decent snooker.
Morning Session
There are three sets of matches in the morning session of play. Tom Ford is probably the biggest name in the first of them. He faces the capable Tian Pengfei in the first round while a couple of held over matches sees Andrew Higginson taking on Asutosh Padhy and Li Hang up against S Shrikishna. Anda Zhang meets Soheil Vehedi in the other game.
The next set of matches sees Alan McManus taking on the local man Malkeet Singh in a held over match while in the first round there is Ken Doherty against John Astley, Mark King facing the dangerous Adam Duffy and Robin Hull meeting Xu Si.
The final games in the morning have Mark Davis playing Laxman Rawat in a held over match, with Sam Baird playing Lucky Vatnani in the same round. In the first round Fergal O’Brien plays Jimmy Robertson and Matt Selt meets the competent Jimmy Robertson.
Afternoon Session
The afternoon begins with Shaun Murphy taking on E Pandurangaiah in the held over match from qualifying while in the tournament proper there are a couple of decent matches when Graeme Dott faces Jack Lisowski and Ricky Walden meets Alfie Burden. In the other game in the first of two sets of matches in the afternoon there is a big opportunity for Sean O’Sullivan and Josh Boileau when they meet.
Another held over match sees the defending champion Anthony McGill begin his title defence in the second set of games. He takes on the Indian star Aditya Mehta. Elsewhere Jackson Page will go up against Rory McLeod, Anthony Hamilton battles Hossein Vafaei and Daniel Wells will face the solid Joe Perry.

Betting
I’m going with a couple of bets on Tuesday. In the morning I am going to go with the form of Fergal O’Brien when he takes on a Jimmy Robertson for whom the season hasn’t really got going yet. He has qualified for this tournament but he hasn’t won many matches. O’Brien has though. He had a good run to the quarter final in China last month and can build on that with another win here.
Anthony Hamilton and Hossein Vafaei have met twice in their careers so far and the Iranian has won on both occasions. I believe in these conditions he can make it a hat trick of wins too. Hamilton made a name for himself at the beginning of the year when he won the German Masters but he has been more hit and miss since then. I’ve made no secret of my liking of Vafaei and at odds against he’s the punt here.
