2017 The Masters Darts – Quarter Finals Betting Preview

The Masters darts tournament concludes on Sunday with the quarter finals, semi-finals and final all played out across two busy sessions in Milton Keynes and at the end of the day someone will be £60,000 richer and nicely set up for the year ahead.

Unfortunately as ever in these type of tournaments due to time restrictions we will be unable to cover the semi-finals and final of this event but we can cover the quarter finals in the afternoon session and that is what we’ll do here.

Phil Taylor vs Peter Wright

The afternoon begins with a cracking match which depending on where you shop you can get evens on both men at the time of writing. Both men displayed excellent form in their first match and showed they are up for winning the tournament.

Phil Taylor’s retirement talk didn’t seem to detract from his performance while Peter Wright no longer fears ‘The Power’ so this should be a great way to begin a potentially busy day. I’m on Wright for the tournament so I won’t go in on him again but there is one bet I like.

I like the 180s in this match. The line is quite low at 10.5 which Wright hit nine in his first match. Taylor hit five too and seemed to like his new darts so I’m expecting him to hit a few here. If both were to hit five, which in a tight match I’m expecting them to be able to, then we only need one more on top somewhere for the overs to come in. I like that.

Gary Anderson vs Raymond Barneveld

The second quarter final looks an absolute barnstormer of a match between two of the best there has ever been in the PDC. Between them these two have seven world titles but Gary Anderson very much has the better of their meetings.

He has won the last 10 matches between the two although in fairness to Raymond Barneveld he has been pretty close in a number of those losses and I expect these two to put on another tight battle. I was close to taking over in legs but having somehow lost a bet in that market on Saturday night I’ll choose a better battle.

Once again the 180s line is 10.5 here and that is just far too low. In their first round matches they nailed 16 180s between them and in their last two matches they have hit 13 in five sets in the double start format and 22 in 29 legs in a Grand Slam semi-final. You’ve got to think we’ll get 16+ legs here in which case the two 180s every three legs ratio will see this line covered.

Adrian Lewis vs Robert Thornton

Potentially the weakest of the quarter finals is the third one of the afternoon. It is certainly the hardest one to call given that Robert Thornton hasn’t shown much form for 12 months and Adrian Lewis is never the most consistent.

In fairness both played well in their first round matches and if we knew we were going to get the same performances out of them in this match then it would be easy to come up with some bets but we don’t so I’ll sit this one out.

Michael van Gerwen vs Mensur Suljovic

The final match of the afternoon sees the runaway train that is Michael van Gerwen taking on the surprisingly quicker Mensur Suljovic in a match which carries plenty of intrigue.

The intrigue lies in did Suljovic speed up in the first round to put Jelle Klaasen off or is it a new thing now? If it is the former will he do it again here or revert back to old ways? Suljovic does know he can beat van Gerwen having done it three times in the past but having only won one leg in their last two meetings and losing 17 in that time I can’t like his chances here.

I would imagine MVG would win this and win it well but the change in Suljovic’s style is enough to put me off getting involved so I’ll sit this one out too.
