The NatWest T20 Blast continues on Saturday with another evening match in the competition as Glamorgan welcome Somerset across the Severn Bridge for a clash at Cardiff in the South Group.
Glamorgan have a win and a defeat to their name in this competition this season while Somerset have played two thus far and lost them both which doesn’t bode well for them. Both could do with a win here.
Glamorgan
Going into the tournament I had Glamorgan down as the dark horses for it and I stand by that prediction. On paper they have had a mixed start to their campaign but when you consider their defeat was to Hampshire who look ultra-strong so far in this competition you can pretty much account for that.
Their win was against Sussex who, while they haven’t started how they would have wanted to, have some decent players and who I expect to come good at some point. Had it not been for a blitz from Lewis McManus then Glamorgan may well have beaten Hampshire in their first match so the Dragons are going ok.
Somerset
Somerset have won the toss in both their matches so far in this competition, asked their opponents to bat, and been soundly beaten both times so they need something to change if they are to launch a run in this competition. When you think how strong they were in the 50 over competition this start makes little sense.
Although Somerset’s first defeat in this tournament was by four runs you would have to say they were massively flattered by the eventual margin of defeat there as Corey Anderson produced heroics to get them so close when the game was up with 10 overs to go. Another convincing defeat followed at Essex.
Team News
Glamorgan are likely to be unchanged from the win against Sussex which means that Jacques Rudolph remains their sole overseas player. Marchant de Lange and Colin Ingram feature as Kolkak players.
Somerset will be without an overseas player for this match as well as Corey Anderson is out with a back injury. Michael Leask has been called into the squad but the Cidermen could well go in unchanged here.

Betting
I’ve no idea how Glamorgan are the outsiders in this match but I am more than happy to take advantage of that fact. They were second in the South Group last year and look to be hitting form here. Somerset have now won seven of their last 30 matches in this competition dating back to the start of the 2015 tournament and they look to be getting worse not better. Glamorgan look much better with the bat and especially the ball here and that should equate into a home win.
I’m surprised the performance line of Colin Ingram is as low as 36.5pts. I say that for a couple of reasons. Not only does he come into this match off the back of a ton against Sussex in a match he also claimed two wickets and a catch in but his record against Somerset is very good. In two completed matches against them he has scores of 54* and 96 from 62 balls. Last season he also claimed 3/20 and a catch here at Cardiff so that performance looks all wrong to me. I’m happy to be on the over there.
Somerset lack a genuine form horse in their batting line up at the minute and with Corey Anderson out their top batsman market looks wide open. At a double figure price it could be worth taking a chance on Roelof van der Merwe. He has always raised his game for the cameras and we’ve seen evidence of that this season already. At 10/1 batting at six away from the de Lange and Hogan spells makes him value here.
