2017 NatWest T20 Blast – Saturday 8th July Matches Betting Preview

The NatWest T20 Blast continues on Saturday with two matches, both of which come from the North Group. We have one of the matches on TV after the third day of the Test match with the other one likely to be covered on social media and things.

All four sides in action on Saturday were playing on Friday night so there will be short turnarounds for each of the teams involved. We’ll begin the preview with the TV match even though it is the later game.

Birmingham Bears vs Nottinghamshire

These two sides opened up their campaigns in very different circumstances. Birmingham Bears produced a solid looking performance and emphatic win at Worcestershire while Nottinghamshire were smacked to high heaven and back at Yorkshire.

Clearly we shouldn’t judge either side on the back of one match but we should keep those results in our memory bank. I always claim the better bowling attack wins the majority of these matches. We saw it in the TV game on Friday night and I fancy we might see it here too and with James Pattinson, Jake Ball and Stuart Broad not around here I like the Bears’ attack more.

The other reason I like the Bears here is they only played up the road and it won’t have been too much of an inconvenience. Plus they won. Nottinghamshire had to trek up to Leeds and now down to Birmingham and won’t have done that until late at night and then they have to get over a defeat and play less than 24hrs later. That isn’t easy so I’m with the Bears here.

Derbyshire vs Yorkshire

The other match comes earlier in the day and it sees two sides who won their opening fixture on Friday night. Derbyshire had a great win away to the defending champions Northamptonshire while Yorkshire emphatically took care of the Royal London One Day Cup winners Nottinghamshire. Both should be confident heading into this one.

We should remember this match is being played at Chesterfield rather than Derby so the conditions are likely to be a little more difficult than normal. With that in mind I don’t really want to bet on the match outcome although Derbyshire are tempting at 7/4.

The bet I like though comes in Tim Bresnan and his performance. The line is at 34.5 which I believe to be well within his range. He is quite capable of taking two wickets in a match of this kind on a ground like this but he is likely to get to the crease to bat too. He is also decent enough in the field to have catching potential so the England international looks good to cover that in my eyes.
