2017 NFL – Buffalo Bills at New York Jets Betting Preview

We reach the halfway stage of the regular season in the NFL this week and it all begins with an AFC East showdown between the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills at the MetLife Stadium.

The Bills go into the match a game behind the New England Patriots at the top of the division and a win here will pile the pressure on their rivals. Although they have lost their last three the Jets are still only 3-5 for the season and can make a charge for the postseason if they win here.

New York Jets

Heading into the season the New York Jets were written off as also-rans but they surprised many with their start to the campaign. Those predictions looked like being true when they lost their opening two matches but then they went on a nice run where they won three on the bounce before a controversial defeat to the New England Patriots and a narrow loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Then came last week’s defeat to the Atlanta Falcons but the big thing about each of those defeats is they were by one score or less so they are not far away. If they can just hold their nerve in the key moments, which will come from winning close matches, then they may be able to go on another lengthy winning run.

Buffalo Bills

One of the surprise packages of the season has been the Buffalo Bills and with them securing wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin just before the trade deadline closed they should finish the season strongly too. If the quality of their offense can match the ability of their defence then the Bills are not just playoff contenders but outside Super Bowl chances.

Much of that will depend on how well Tyrod Taylor can continue to perform but his life is being made much easier with all the takeaways his defence are picking up. They share the most in the league in terms of turnovers with Micah Hyde in particular in fantastic form. With LeSean McCoy in the backfield there aren’t many boxes the Bills don’t tick right now.

Betting

I like the Buffalo Bills here but I don’t think they will win this by a landslide by any stretch of the imagination. The Jets muscle up defensively and hang in games but ultimately at the minute when push comes to shove they are not getting over the line, unlike the Bills who have winning momentum behind them.

With that in mind rather than ask the Bills as the away side to cover a field goal I’m going to take them to win by 1-13pts to give us the narrow win on our side as well as a late defensive score or something to add the gloss to a win.

Speaking of the Buffalo defence they are creating so many turnovers that I have to have a cheeky dabble on them to score a touchdown at anytime. Josh McCown is likely to be forced to win this through the air which begins a defensive play into possibilities. They aren’t shabby on special teams either so the 7/2 on either the defence of the special teams unit finding the end zone looks nice to me.
