2017 NFL – Chicago Bears at Green Bay Packers Betting Preview

Amazingly we have reached week four of the NFL season already and it begins at Lambeau Field on Thursday night when the oldest rivalry in football plays out another instalment as the Green Bay Packers take on the Chicago Bears.

Both sides have had mixed starts to the campaign but that can all be forgotten if they can win the first of the grudge matches this season. Green Bay would go 3-1 with a win while the Bears would climb above the Packers if they come out on top.

Green Bay Packers

The Packers have gone 2-1 for their start to the season with a pair of wins at home against the Seattle Seahawks and the Cincinnati Bengals but neither of those victories were convincing by any stretch of the imagination. Their defeat came in Atlanta which was probably to be expected given how they have started.

Surprisingly it has been the misfiring offense which has been the problem for the Packers this season. The lack of a quality ground game is making them very predictable and they are suffering as a result. They can take comfort from the fact that they are defending well so if they can sort things out on offense they should be fine.

Chicago Bears

The Bears picked up their first win of the campaign last weekend when they took care of the Pittsburgh Steelers and having only narrowly lost to the Atlanta Falcons in the opening week of the season they probably should not be underestimated in this one. They were well beaten by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in between which is more of a concern.

The ground game for the Bears has been very good. Their offensive line has been opening up huge gaps for their running backs to exploit and if they can keep control of the ball in the running game they can control the clock which they will need to do. They will also have to defend the pass well if they are to get a win here.

Betting

It might be that the Chicago Bears come up short in winning the match but if they don’t turn the ball over and they have their run game in good order I expect them to see enough of it to keep within 7.5pts of the Packers in this match.

We’ve had three weeks now and the Packers offense has not impressed in any of them. If Chicago can put points up when they have the ball and wind down significant parts of the clock they should have enough in their defence to stay within a converted try of the Cheeseheads.
