2017 NFL – Kansas City Chiefs at Houston Texans Betting Preview

The final match of a busy Sunday inside the National Football League sees the Kansas City Chiefs making the trip to Texas to take on the Houston Texans in the latest NFL Sunday Night Football.

Both these sides embarked on play-off campaigns last season and will be looking for deep postseason runs at the end of this season too. They have both been in good form as well so we should be set for a cracking match.

Houston Texans

It took a couple of weeks for the Houston Texans to fire this season but in the last two matches they have put up 90pts and suddenly look a really good unit even allowing for the fact that they ultimately lost one of those games against the New England Patriots. They arrive in this match off the back of putting up a 50 burger on the Tennessee Titans last week.

I think it is fair to say that their defence has not fired how we expect it to so far this season but with the offense functioning much better Bill O’Brien can crank up the pass rush and let JJ Watt and Jadeveon Clowney loose. If they can get to Alex Smith and stunt the progress of the Chiefs offense the Texans have every chance.

Kansas City Chiefs

You would have to say the best team in the league so far this season has been the Kansas City Chiefs. I don’t just say that because they are 4-0 for the year but more the way they have done it. Right from the beginning of the season they have laid a marker down and as yet they have not relented in their progress.

They have piled up the points offensively with Alex Smith discovering a down the field assault that few knew he had, and then they have been making the relevant plays on defence to add the gloss to any winning margins. With Smith expected to be available to play the Chiefs should make the journey full of confidence.

Betting

I think we are in for a great match here. We have two dynamic offenses opposing each other with both going up against strong defences and the battle between the units will be an interesting one to watch. Given the strengths everywhere we look I’m dodging the match outcome in the main.

I do like the idea of there being plenty of sacks though. I say that because the Chiefs are missing some players from their offensive line which is far from ideal when taking on the most talented pass rush in the league but Houston have a rookie quarterback who is not adverse to newbie mistakes no matter how well he is progressing. Odds against on half a dozen or more sacks looks attractive to me.

Nobody in the league have scored more fourth quarter points going into the weekend than the Kansas City Chiefs but they don’t always start matches so well. They trailed at half time against the Patriots and the Redskins and only led Philadelphia 6-3 at the break. Houston should begin well off the back of last week but as the Chiefs come at them there might be a key mistake in the home side that can get the Chiefs over the line. 8/1 on the Houston/KC outcome looks tasty enough.
