2017 NFL – New England Patriots at Denver Broncos Betting Preview

The final match of a busy Sunday in the NFL is the traditional Sunday Night Football which this week comes from Colorado as the Denver Broncos host the New England Patriots. This is a big match for both sides so we should be getting a top match.

The New England Patriots have not always been at their dominating best this season but they head to Denver with a 6-2 record while the Broncos have struggled and their 3-5 standing reflects the problems they have had over the course of the campaign.

Denver Broncos

After eight matches of offensive struggles the Broncos have decided to bite the bullet with Trevor Siemian and have reinstalled Brock Osweiler as their quarterback for this one in the aim of getting something out of their key players. They have mentioned about getting back to running the ball again but you wouldn’t think that would be a successful play here.

It goes without saying that if Denver are to be competitive in this match they are going to have to rely on their defence but that has just been opened up at will by the Philadelphia Eagles. You would think that unit is proud and will be out to make up for that here and they have to perform something close to their best to get the job done here.

New England Patriots

The Patriots began the season 2-2 and looking like they were struggling but they entered their bye week with four successive wins and they will be looking to pick up where they left off in this match. Considering the injuries they have had to deal with the champions will be delighted with their standing so far.

Speaking of injuries there is a strange thing going on. The Patriots acquired former tight end Martellus Bennett on waivers earlier in the week but he had been ruled out for some time by the Green Bay Packers. New England claim he is fit and will play here which will be something interesting to look out for throughout the night.

Betting

The handicap for this match sees New England Patriots having to cover seven points which might look a little on the stingy side when this one is over but I’ve a feeling it might be about right so I’m going to go to the player markets for a bet.

We know Bill Belichick is a master tactician and aims to take away the biggest offensive weapon a side has. With Denver coach Vance Joseph quite vocal about his side needing to establish their run game again I suspect the Patriots will take that away and ask Osweiler to win this one through the air.

Brock Osweiler is a very limited quarterback for the hype that has been around him but his passing yards line is quite low at 218.5. When you consider this is a trigger man who has the likes of Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, Bennie Fowler and Virgil Green to throw to as well as good dump off options to CJ Anderson I think the line remains on the low side. With Denver likely to be losing for long spells the need to throw the ball will be there. I don’t expect miracles from Osweiler but I do think he can get to 219 passing yards.
