2017 NFL – Pittsburgh Steelers at Detroit Lions Betting Preview

The final match of another Sunday in the National Football League sees the Pittsburgh Steelers heading to the Detroit Lions for the latest instalment of the Sunday Night Football.

The Steelers head into the contest with a 5-2 record for the season while the Lions are 3-3 and coming off their bye week they will be eager to kick their campaign into life as they chase the division title.

Detroit Lions

The season started very well for the Detroit Lions but it went a little pair shaped leading into their bye. They were beaten by the NFC South duo of Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints and a big reason for that was the amount of points they haemorrhaged. They conceded 52pts in New Orleans last time out so the bye may have come at the right time.

They were hoping to get players back over the extended break but they remain without a couple of tackles and have a number of other players questionable. The two weeks since they last played will have given Matt Stafford and Golden Tate the chance to recover from knocks but the Lions will have needed them to.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers go into this match off the back of three wins in their last four contests and that includes a very good win in Kansas City. They were too good for the Cincinnati Bengals last week and look to be really hitting their straps on both sides of the ball which is a good effort after their shock defeat to the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 5.

That defeat doesn’t look nearly as bad now but there is no doubt that it was a blessing in disguise for them. It was the wake up call that they needed and the offense has been restored to the powerful machine we know it to be. The Steelers are performing much better on defence this year too so they look where they want to be.

Betting

I don’t like going against home sides who come off of bye weeks in the NFL but with the bashed up nature of the Detroit Lions offensive line and the struggles that their run game have had in recent times just makes me think the Pittsburgh Steelers can cover a field goal in this one.

The Steelers pass defence stands up to the scrutiny of most and they will go quarterback hunting for sure in this game. Pittsburgh can get it done on the ground or through the air and unless Detroit can get Ameer Abdullah producing big numbers I don’t see how the Lions can stay close with all their injuries.
