2017 NFL Playoffs – Saturday 6th January Wildcard Round Matches Betting Preview

The NFL Playoffs begin on Saturday evening with the first two wildcard round matches being played as the race for the Super Bowl really heats up. We have a match in the AFC followed by one in the NFC to kick things off on what should be a tasty night of action.

The first match of the night sees the AFC West champions Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Tennessee Titans while the NFC West winners Los Angeles Rams take on the beaten Super Bowl side Atlanta Falcons in arguably the match of the round.

Tennessee Titans at Kansas City Chiefs

The opener sees a Tennessee Titans side who are not used to still being alive at this stage of the season taking on a Kansas City Chiefs outfit who will be looking to go all the way to the Super Bowl and fulfil the potential they have shown this season.

The Titans have suffered a big blow with DeMarco Murray being ruled out which means that Derrick Henry will get more action. The good news is that their defence generally fares well against the run so Alex Smith might have to get this done through the air which is always interesting.

One man who I expect the Chiefs quarterback to target is Travis Kelce. He is often a go to man for him but in big matches that is even more the case. The Titans defence have struggled to contain tight ends all season and I’m not expecting that to change here. Kelce is a big game player and I fancy him to see enough passes to go beyond 65.5 yards.

Atlanta Falcons at Los Angeles Rams

The match I’m really looking forward to on Saturday night is the NFC clash between the Atlanta Falcons who were 25 minutes from glory last season and the Los Angeles Rams who might be the surprise package of the Conference this season.

Whenever the Falcons play at the minute there is always the feeling that their matches are going to be high scoring but that was more last year rather than this one. The Los Angeles Rams have been involved in some high scoring matches of their own but the stakes are high now and I’m not convinced this will follow suit.

This Atlanta offense isn’t firing as it can do but their defence is performing better than expected and it is given credit for. I think the Los Angeles pass rush can keep Matt Ryan honest but if nerves take over on offense then this could become one of those tense and tight nights. The points line looks a shade too high to me at 48.5.
