2017 NFL – Week 1 Sunday Early Games Betting Preview

We may have had one match in the new NFL season already but the bulk of the first week takes place as ever on Sunday. Over the two kick off times during the day in the States we have 11 matches to enjoy and get stuck into.

1pm kick offs (6pm UK time)

The AFC North face each other on Sunday with the Baltimore Ravens heading to the Cincinnati Bengals while the match on Sky in the UK sees the Cleveland Browns, fresh off a positive pre-season, hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers. The NFC East also match up on Sunday and the first game in that division sees Washington Redskins host Philadelphia Eagles.

There are a couple of other divisional clashes on the opening week of the campaign with the Houston Texans hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Buffalo Bills facing up to the New York Jets. The other three matches sees the Tennessee Titans taking on the Oakland Raiders, Chicago Bears host the losing Super Bowl side Atlanta Falcons and the Detroit Lions welcome the Arizona Cardinals to Motor Town.

4.05/4.25pm kick offs (9.05/9.25pm UK time)

There are three matches in the second set of kick offs. Many are suggesting that the TV game in the UK, which sees the Green Bay Packers hosting the Seattle Seahawks, could well be the NFC Championship game this season. It looks a tasty match up that is for sure.

The Los Angeles Rams host the Indianapolis Colts in one of the other two matches with the last game seeing the San Francisco 49ers welcoming the Carolina Panthers to Levi Stadium with both sides looking to improve on disappointing campaigns last term.

Betting

I like a few bets in the earlier matches on Sunday. We begin in Houston where there is plenty of emotion at the present time and the community will be eager for their Houston Texans to provide some positivity with a first win. Houston’s defence will stand the test of time while their offense should punch holes in the Jacksonville back line. This feels like a match the Texans should win by a decent enough margin.

If you are expecting points in Buffalo this week you may be disappointed. Much has been written about the New York Jets and the chances of them going 0-16. That is premature but the simple fact is they are not a good side but they can bottle up the run which could take away the Buffalo Bills’ sole offensive weapon. The under 40.5 looks attractive there.

On the flip side of that I am expecting points in Washington where the Washington Redskins may need to fight fire with fire this season. Philadelphia Eagles are potential dark horse candidates this year with the work they have done on improving their offense in the close season and they’ll score points but they might not avoid shipping them. 47.5 looks a low enough line to get on the overs.

In the big match of the evening I am going to side with the Seattle Seahawks. The Legion of Boom is back in full force this season and the Seahawks have a powerful back in Eddie Lacy who will know all about the defence he will attempt to run through. There are plenty of people optimistic about Green Bay’s chances this season but I am less so. Aaron Rodgers is capable of a match winning performance against anyone but he may need to be at his very very best here. Odds against on Seattle is the play.
