2017 NFL – Week 15 Sunday Early Games Betting Preview

After a Thursday night game and a Saturday double header and with the usual primetime matches on Sunday and Monday night to come there is a much reduced set of fixtures in the usual Sunday kick off times in the NFL this week.

That doesn’t mean a lack of quality though as we have arguably the biggest match of the season so far to enjoy when the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers do battle to decide who holds the advantage in the AFC. Plenty of other key matches take place too.

1pm kick offs (6pm UK time)

All eyes will be on the big match in this session of games which sees us with the Carolina Panthers hosting the Green Bay Packers which is the live game for those of us in the UK. It is a match which sees a return of a certain Aaron Rodgers to add to the occasion.

Elsewhere the Washington Redskins host the Arizona Cardinals while there is an all-AFC North battle between the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens. The Minnesota Vikings can land the NFC North title if they can beat the Cincinnati Bengals while Jacksonville Jaguars will be looking to take another step to the AFC South title when they host divisional rivals Houston Texans. Buffalo Bills welcome the Miami Dolphins to town in an AFC East clash with the New Orleans Saints hosting the New York Jets. The other match comes from the NFC East as the champions Philadelphia Eagles head to MetLIfe Stadium to play the New York Giants.

4pm kick offs (9pm UK time)

This is where the heavyweight showdown between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots takes place. Surprisingly this isn’t a primetime game but it is a huge one as the winners will control their own destiny in terms of the number one seed in the AFC. Whoever wins will most likely claim that honour.

The other two matches in this kick off time sees the Seattle Seahawks hosting the Los Angeles Rams in a big NFC West match up while the San Francisco 49ers go in search of a third straight win when they host the Tennessee Titans in California.

Betting

I’m going to play the total points and touchdown markets in three matches on Sunday. In the first live game I like the overs in the Carolina Panthers match against Green Bay Packers. I expect the Packers offense to be significantly rejuvenated with the appearance of number 12 back from injury while the Panthers are all class under Cam Newton. Given what is at stake here this could very well turn into something of a shootout. Over 47 looks good to me.

Moving over to the NFC East and I’m not sure there will be more than 40.5 points when the New York Giants host the Philadelphia Eagles. We don’t need to cover the issues with the Giants’ offense anymore but the Eagles start life without Carson Wentz here and while Nick Foles is an able deputy he might take a few plays to get going. Zach Ertz is always a big part of the Eagles offense and he is just coming back from injury too. Both defences know their stuff so I’ll go under 40.5 here.

Although the line is fairly high I can’t ignore the points in the huge game at Heinz Field where the Pittsburgh Steelers host the New England Patriots. We saw a pretty limited Baltimore offense pile up the points on a weakened Steelers defence last week but Pittsburgh have enough quality in their own offense to score against anyone. This should be a cracking game with both offenses at full strength and so I’ll chance over 6.5 touchdowns at odds against.
