2017 NFL – Week 5 Sunday Early Games Betting Preview

There is another busy Sunday in the NFL this week although with some sides on their bye week matches are slightly reduced in number. The quality shouldn’t be though with a number of close looking fixtures on show in the division across the two usual kick off times.

1pm kick offs (6pm UK time)

The live game on Sky in the UK comes from motor land where the Detroit Lions host the Carolina Panthers in a battle of two sides who are 3-1 for their seasons. Another 3-1 side are Buffalo Bills and they head to Ohio to face the Cincinnati Bengals. The Philadelphia Eagles host the Arizona Cardinals while Pittsburgh Steelers welcome the Jacksonville Jaguars to Heinz Field.

Two sides who are 0-4 for the season meet in a must win match at the MetLife Stadium when the New York Giants host the Los Angeles Chargers. Cleveland Browns and New York Jets meet in a battle of perennial strugglers while two more sides who are finding life difficult clash when the Indianapolis Colts host the San Francisco 49ers. Miami Dolphins welcome the Tennessee Titans.

4pm kick offs (9pm UK time)

We have three matches in the second kick off time of the night. The live game on Sky is the heavyweight tussle between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers. Elsewhere there is an NFC West tussle between the Los Angeles Rams and the Seattle Seahawks with the Oakland Raiders facing the Baltimore Ravens in the other game.

Betting

I like a number of bets on Sunday evening. In the early TV game I like the Detroit Lions. I’ve mentioned all season how I like the Lions and they were inches away from being 4-0 for the campaign. They host the Carolina Panthers who feasted gloriously on New England’s indifferent defence last week but I expect the Lions to be a tougher test here. Stafford is confident right now and at home I expect him to find the win.

The Buffalo Bills are 3-1 almost without people taking any notice of them and I think they can go 4-1 when they head to the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals have shown more on offense in the last couple of weeks but still a win over Cleveland is all they have to show for their efforts and they now face a stingy Buffalo defence. If Tyrod Taylor keeps things simple I expect the Bills to remain within a field goal if not produce something much more significant.

Moving into the later matches and I like the Green Bay Packers at the Dallas Cowboys. In fairness I’ve said how I don’t rate the Packers as much this season and in truth I’m still not completely taken but there is no disguising the Cowboys’ struggles so far in the campaign. They are 2-2 for the season but weaker offenses than the Packers one have grilled them in those defeats. If Green Bay can keep Prescott and Elliott quiet I fancy they’ll win this.

There is also no hiding from the struggles of the Baltimore Ravens, especially on offense. They have hardly any fit stars on that side of the ball and are really struggling as a result. Oakland Raiders haven’t lit up on offense this season like they did last term with dropped passes and injuries to Derek Carr not helping them. Carr hasn’t been completely ruled out here but even if he plays his timing looks a little off. I’m struggling to see where a bucket load of points come from in this one.
