2017 Open de France Golf – Side Markets Betting Preview

With the Open de France being added to the Rolex Series it becomes a huge event on the European Tour and as such we have plenty of side markets to get stuck into ahead of the tournament. We will look to do that right here.

We have the usual set of nationality markets to go at and the top finishes as well so there is plenty of betting opportunities. We’ve picked out the best three here.

Top Thai

There is a small and select field from Thailand teeing it up this week. The players involved are the defending champion Thongchai Jaidee, Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Phachara Khongwatmai.

The latter two are amazingly strong off the tee but this isn’t a course for powering your way around it. This one needs tactical nous, finesse and a solid all-round game and that is probably why Jaidee hasn’t been out of the top 10 here in the last three renewals. As well as winning the event last year he was tenth the year before and second prior to that.

At 6/5 he looks a solid pick here against an Aphibarnrat who has never troubled the leaderboard in three attempts and Khongwatmai who debuts in this event this year.

Top Dane

Five Danish players are included in the field this week with each of them looking for a good tournament to kick start a run of favourable events for those who are adept at playing in the wind.

Soren Kjeldsen, Thorbjorn Olesen, Lucas Bjerregaard, Lasse Jensen and Thomas Bjorn. We can immediately rule out Bjorn as he will have other things on his mind this week scouting for men he thinks can get it done for him here in 15 months time. The other four are all good players though.

I like Kjeldsen here. Jensen and Bjerregaard have ordinary records here while Olesen has done nothing at all around this course since he was runner up here in 2011. Kjeldsen has six top 20 finishes in his last eight outings here and another one of them would make him very tough to beat in this market.

Top 20 Finish

Usually I use this market to find the value at the bigger prices way down the betting but this week there is a standout value at a shorter price. While I accept this is probably the strongest field we have seen in this tournament I don’t think it is strong enough to keep Martin Kaymer out of the top 20.

Kaymer has seven top 13 finishes in his last eight appearances here and four of those have been top five placings. This is clearly a course that he enjoys and could be just what he needs to kick his season into life. At 6/4 he looks a great price for a top 20 on a track where class usually does come to the fore.
