2017 Premier League Darts – Week 14 Betting Preview

It is the penultimate week of the regular season in the Premier League Darts on Thursday night with the action coming from Sheffield in Week 14 as the eight remaining men jostle for positions in the race for the o2.

We’re done with the weeks where certain players play twice now which is a relief so there are just four matches to focus on throughout the night.

Peter Wright vs Adrian Lewis

The evening opens up with a battle between a Peter Wright who has already qualified for the o2, and Adrian Lewis who really needs to win his last two matches and hope results go his way if he is to make it there.

Peter Wright has been playing some good darts in recent weeks not just in this tournament but in the weekend ones too whereas Adrian Lewis has tailed off significantly since he hit the nine darter a few weeks ago. In a normal night I would expect Wright to win this match but as he isn’t playing for anything I’ll just let him win at the price rather than risk him being up for it.

Raymond Barneveld vs Dave Chisnall

Two men very much in the running for a place at the o2 meet in the second match of the evening when Raymond Barneveld takes on Dave Chisnall. Both men are just outside the playoff places but with Phil Taylor having a tough match later in the night the winner of this could really enhance their chances of making it through.

I’m not sure who is going to win the match but generally when these two meet we see 180s. We saw nine of them in nine legs when they met earlier in the season and we saw nine in 11 legs in their match last season. In between that they played at The Masters and produced 14 180s in 17 legs so their styles collide for 180s. Even money on over 7.5 looks good here with that in mind.

James Wade vs Gary Anderson

Two former champions meet in the penultimate match of the evening when a near enough already eliminated James Wade takes on a Gary Anderson who needs to win out to be certain of his place at the o2.

The mind will be focused for Anderson here which should ensure he puts his bad record with Wade to bed in this match. How much Wade will be focused on this match with his fate likely to be sealed by the time he plays remains to be seen. Wade just isn’t and hasn’t been scoring well enough to win matches recently and I don’t see that changing here.

Anderson won a floor event at the weekend and he looked in decent nick last week and I think he’ll win this. He has more than twice as many 180s as Wade in the campaign too so the 10/11 on Anderson to win and hit the most 180s looks good here.

Michael van Gerwen vs Phil Taylor

Michael van Gerwen goes into this match knowing come what may he will be at the o2 in a couple of weeks time whereas Phil Taylor will have lost fourth spot before he plays so he really could do with a result of some kind here to keep his destiny in his own hands next week.

When these two met in the reverse fixture van Gerwen forced Taylor to visibly give him when the all-time legend ended up throwing darts away at the bullseye in a petty surrender and the way the two are playing you would think MVG would win this too but he isn’t playing for anything and that is enough to make me leave this one alone.
