2017 Premier League Darts – Week 6 Betting Preview

We are heading towards Judgement Night in the Premier League Darts season at a rate of knots. Before we get there the bandwagon hits Glasgow for week six of the campaign on Thursday night.

The big news after missing last week is that Michael van Gerwen will be back on show in Glasgow. How fit he is remains to be seen. He takes his place in the usual five match line up.

Adrian Lewis vs Phil Taylor

Two men who aren’t all that well liked by Scottish crowds will get the action underway as former practice partners Adrian Lewis and Phil Taylor collide. Taylor goes into the week on top of the table while Lewis in the bottom two so both will be after the points for different needs.

Lewis played well last week and in the UK Open while Taylor had the UK Open off and should be fresh for this one. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a tight match. These two don’t always produce close matches. I don’t really see too much value either way so I’ll sit this opening match out.

James Wade vs Peter Wright

The new UK Open champion Peter Wright plays his first match as a major champion when he takes on James Wade in the second match of the evening. You would have to say the schedulers haven’t been too kind to Wade here – making him play a Scot in Scotland and he might cop all kinds from the crowd.

That said Wade is playing well as his lofty fourth placed position in the table would suggest. Wright is second for a reason and you can certainly see why he is odds on for this one. It remains to be seen if there is a comedown for Wright after his big weekend win. I suspect there will be one which puts me off getting involved in this one too.

Kim Huybrechts vs Michael van Gerwen

This is always a good battle. Kim Huybrechts takes on Michael van Gerwen and all eyes will be on the world champion to see just how fit he is after the back issue which forced him out of last week and the UK Open.

Huybrechts has played much better than the results in this tournament have suggested. He didn’t do a huge amount wrong in the UK Open over the weekend where he lost in the quarter finals. It is dangerous to take on MVG and I’m not going to do it, but there is certainly a case to be made for the Belgian here. I’ll keep my powder dry though.

Jelle Klaasen vs Raymond Barneveld

This all-Dutch battle goes back quite some years and I’m sure it yields good memories for both of them. It was Raymond Barneveld that Jelle Klaasen beat to win the world title in 2006 while Barneveld has a World Championship nine darter against Klaasen to his name.

Neither man has the results they would like from their season so far so this is a big match for the pair of them. The winner will move themselves into semi-final reckoning. The loser will have an eye over their shoulder ahead of Judgement Night in a few weeks.

I quite like the idea of 180s here. Both men have been hitting the 60 well in recent weeks. Barneveld was pummelling it at the UK Open while Klaasen filled it up regularly in the Premier League last week. 6.5 looks a fairly low line in a match I expect to go 11 or 12 legs so I’ll go with the overs here.

Dave Chisnall vs Gary Anderson

The crowd are made to wait until the end of the night to see their hero Gary Anderson. They should be seeing him in a cracker of a match. The Scot takes on Dave Chisnall for the first time since the pair broke all kinds of scoring records in the World Championship.

That match wasn’t the first time these two got together to produce a plethora of 180’s. I would be surprised if they don’t do the same here. They just click whenever they face each other. They both have such a good rhythm and neither tries any nonsense. I’m expecting the 180s to flow again here.
