2017 Scottish Open Golf – Round 3 Betting Preview

We have reached the halfway mark of the Scottish Open and as ever the field has been halved at this point leaving 65 players with the chance of scooping the fourth Rolex Series title of the season and the many other benefits that could come with it.

Friday Recap

Just eight shots separate the field heading into the second half of the tournament. We have a trio of leaders on nine under par. They are Padraig Harrington, Alexander Knappe and Callum Shinkwin while two more are a shot further back on eight under including Ian Poulter.

Rickie Fowler and Nicolas Colsaerts join Gregory Havret in beginning the third round two shots back on seven under with Matt Kuchar and Alex Levy the only other men within two of the lead. Rory McIlroy, Alex Noren, Patrick Reed and Tyrrell Hatton are among the top names who failed to qualify for the weekend.

It was another dry day for me betting wise on Friday with both my bets failing to birdie runs in the final four holes having led for much of the afternoon which was disappointing but there is still two rounds left for us to cling something back from the week in terms of daily bets.

Saturday 2 balls

The tee times have been moved up for Saturday due to some nasty weather that could come in later in the day which the organisers want to avoid. That means that the leaders go out at 11.58am BST when Padraig Harrington partners Alexander Knappe. There are some good groups on the golf course throughout Saturday but with questionable weather around I like just one of them from a betting point of view.

David Horsey vs Mikko Ilonen

Match tees off at 11.13 BST

Two men who sit four off the lead and therefore have every chance of doing something in this tournament if they have a good moving day after David Horsey and Mikko Ilonen and they partner each other on Saturday.

Ilonen was the first round leader but slipped away from the very top of the leaderboard with a two over par 74 on Friday. Horsey went the opposite way. He shot a 68 which included an ace and has got himself in a nice position with his confidence likely to be high after that ace.

Both these men are comfortable playing links golf but the form of Ilonen has been poor for far too long for someone of his ability. I hope he gets it back as I like him but when the game isn’t good a dodgy spell of Scottish weather is the last thing that he will need. Horsey has contended on many exposed tracks this season so he won’t mind it as much and should have dominance over the Finn on Saturday.
