2017 Specsavers County Championship – Tuesday 5th September Matches Betting Preview

It is four day cricket all the way now to conclude the county season with the next round of Specsavers County Championship matches beginning on Tuesday as we prepare for an exciting end to the campaign.

Both divisions have meetings for the top two this week while there is also a clash between the bottom two sides in Division One as they look to avoid relegation so this is a pivotal week. More and more counties are beginning to show these matches on live streams on their sites too which is helpful especially for in-play punting.

Division One

The title could near enough be decided in the top flight this week when Essex head to Old Trafford to take on Lancashire. An Essex win would give them a massive lead in the title race. At the other end of the table Warwickshire host Somerset in a match where the losers will be relegated at the end of the season.

The other two matches sees third hosting fourth at the Ageas Bowl when Hampshire take on Surrey while the last two champions meet at Headingley when Yorkshire host a Middlesex side who won’t be retaining the title.

Division Two

All eyes will be on Trent Bridge in this division when the leaders Nottinghamshire host their nearest challengers Worcestershire. The home side will be all but champions with a win. Two sides still hoping to reel Worcestershire in for second place meet at Wantage Road when Northamptonshire host Sussex.

The other three matches have the potential to be tight and interesting. Durham host another promotion chaser in Kent while Leicestershire play host to Gloucestershire. Derbyshire welcome Glamorgan to town in the other match.

Betting

I like two bets over the two divisions. In the top flight I think Somerset are a big looking price to win at Warwickshire. Warwickshire won’t have focused too much on red ball cricket while preparing for Finals Day and getting over the disappointment of it while Somerset have had a couple of weeks since they lost that quarter final to Nottinghamshire and should be more tuned in for this format. Warwickshire have named a very young looking squad for the contest whereas Somerset look more experienced. I fancy they can keep their faint hopes of survival alive with a win here.

England not having Keaton Jennings and Mark Wood is very much a gain for Durham and I think they are worth backing against Kent. I like Kent but a pace trio of Wood, Graham Onions and Chris Rushworth is a top Division One attack and I’m not convinced Kent will be able to repel it. This should be a high class match but with the form Collingwood and Steel are in combined with the quality of that attack it is Durham for me in this one.
