2017 Welsh Open Snooker – Day 2 Betting Preview

The second day of action in the Coral Welsh Open sees the conclusion of the opening round as 64 more men embark on their quest for the title. At the end of another three session day on Tuesday we will know the identity of the 64 players going through to the second round.

Among the stars on show on the second day of the tournament are the local hero Mark Williams, world champion Mark Selby, defending champion Ronnie O’Sullivan and the Ace in the Pack, Judd Trump.

Morning Session

As ever we have eight matches in the morning session with the two televised tables being occupied by Duane Jones and Michael White as well as Marco Fu and Martin Gould. The latter is a seriously good match for the first round of the tournament and an example of the open draw and what it can bring.

On the outside tables the matches are David John against the Northern Ireland champion Mark King, Alan McManus takes on Christopher Keogan, Andy Hicks faces Martin O’Donnell, David Grace meets Robbie Williams while Alfie Burden faces Igor Figueiredo and Sam Craigie meets Stuart Carrington.

Afternoon Session

The obvious highlight of the afternoon session is in the first of the three set of matches. It sees Ronnie O’Sullivan beginning his title defence when he faces Tom Ford while on the other TV table Joe Perry will take on Anthony McGill.

Elsewhere in the first set of afternoon games there is an all-Welsh battle between Tyler Rees and Jamie Jones while Gary Wilson plays Rory McLeod, Liang Wenbo takes on Rod Lawler in a clash of styles. Gareth Allen meets Wang Yuchen, Hammad Miah faces Josh Boileau and Oliver Lines plays Eden Sharav.

Mark Williams is the main attraction in the second set of matches. He faces Elliot Slessor while Mark Allen is on the other streamed table when he takes on Sydney Wilson. The outside tables see Boonyarit Kaettikun playing Ken Doherty and Hamza Akbar meeting Peter Ebdon.

Finally in the afternoon Ding Junhui is on the main table when he takes on Robin Hull while Ali Carter and Zhao Xintong meet on the streamed table. Yu Delu plays Robert Milkins and Matt Selt meets Mei Xiwen away from the cameras.

Evening Session

Judd Trump occupies the main table first up in the evening session. He takes on the former finalist Andrew Higginson while the World Grand Prix champion Barry Hawkins is on the other streamed table. He goes up against Fraser Patrick. Yan Bingtao plays Daniel Wells while Mike Dunn meets Kurt Dunham on the other tables.

Mark Selby is the last star on the main table. He takes on Liam Highfield while the streamed table will finish with Michael Holt against Mitchell Mann. James Wattana plays Xiao Guodong and Adam Duffy faces Thor Chuan Leong to close up proceedings on the outside tables.

Betting

After a dodgy opening day on Monday I’m going to rein things in a little for Tuesday although given the amount of potential one sided matches there isn’t a huge amount I fancy anyway.

I’m taking just the one bet and it comes in the match between Yu Delu and Robert Milkins both of whom salvaged disappointing seasons at the Scottish Open. Milkins made the quarter final there while Delu made the semi-final losing to the eventual champion Marco Fu.

That effort was enough to get Delu into the World Grand Prix last week where he put up a decent showing against Ding Junhui. If we think back a little further Delu beat Stuart Bingham in the UK Championship so there is a bit more to like about him than Milkins and at 6/5 the Chinese players looks a touch of value.

Tips

Back Y.Delu to beat R.Milkins for a 4/10 stake at 2.20 with Titanbet
