2017 WGC Bridgestone Invitational Golf – Side Markets Betting Preview

The field for the WGC Bridgestone Invitational in Akron this week may be streamlined but that does not mean there are no nationality markets for us to get our teeth stuck into. There aren’t as many admittedly but there are some which carry decent value so we’ll delve into them now.

If this was a major I would be looking at all the top finish markets as well as the nationality ones but with less than 80 players teeing it up the value in those are less. I’ve found two to go at nationality wise though.

Top Australian

Six Australians tee it up this week although in truth I am only giving genuine attentions to three of them. That isn’t to say Scott Hend, Rod Pampling and Sam Brazel do not deserve to be here because they do but Jason Day, Adam Scott and Marc Leishman are a cut above.

It is Leishman that I like. In truth the form of the other two can be called into question. Jason Day hasn’t had his best stuff for a long while and Adam Scott revealed he will be a father soon so his mind may well be elsewhere even allowing for how big this week is.

Leishman was third here in 2014 and although he competed in the last two years he had other things going on then. He has been back to his best this year having won the Arnold Palmer Invitational and he takes successive top six finishes into this week with him. At 13/5 he’s my pick.

Top Swede

Only two players from Sweden tee it up in this tournament which is something of a surprise but it creates a decent match like market between Henrik Stenson and Alex Noren where the former Open champion is the odds on favourite.

I’m not so sure that is right though. Stenson’s form is not what it was and indeed he has really struggled by and large. He does have two top 10 finishes in his last three outings in this tournament but as I say that form looks to be missing right now.

Alex Noren is in good form and has been for the last 18 months and although he returns here after a while away he does so as one of the best players in the world. Noren outscored Stenson in the BMW PGA and The Open over the last couple of months and the 11/8 he sees off Stenson over the four rounds looks good value.

Tips

Back M.Leishman Top Australian for a 2/10 stake at 3.60 with Boylesports
