2017 Wimbledon Tennis – Day 3 Betting Preview

The second round of the All England Championships at Wimbledon begins on Wednesday with the singles draws cracking on at a decent pace at SW19. The majority of the bigger names have made it through to the second round so we will start to get some good matches from here on in.

Among the stars on show on Wednesday are Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, Simona Halep, Jo Konta and Venus Williams with a place in the last 32 the aim for everyone taking to the courts.

Day 2 Recap

It was a day of injured players falling by the wayside on Tuesday with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic both seeing their opponents quit on them in the second set. There were no huge shocks on Tuesday which will please the big names who have no need to get edgy early in the tournament.

Tuesday was a profitable day for us betting on the tournament with Ryan Harrison and Ekaterina Makarova making a mockery of their odds and with us staking well on the day we made a solid 3pt profit to hopefully build on during Wednesday.

Centre Court

A Briton gets to open up the action on Centre Court on Wednesday but it is Jo Konta who gets the honour. She faces Donna Vekic in a repeat of their Nottingham final which the Croatian won. They are followed by Andy Murray facing the former conqueror of Rafael Nadal on this court in Dustin Brown before the aforementioned Nadal rounds off the day against Donald Young.

Court 1

Kei Nishikori is first up on the other show court. He takes on Sergiy Stakhovsky of Ukraine before the former winner Venus Williams takes to the court. She is up against Qiang Wang before Simona Halep finishes things off when she takes on the woman who beat Laura Robson in the previous round in Beatriz Haddad Maia.

Court 2

Heather Watson is the one to begin play on Court 2. She faces the seeded Latvian Anastasija Sevastova prior to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga taking on Simone Bolelli. Marin Cilic then steps onto the court to face Florian Mayer in the final match of the day here.

Court 3

Elena Vesnina takes on Victoria Azarenka in the first match of the day on this court which is a peach of a match to go and watch if you have a ground pass albeit you might need some earmuffs to cope! Aljaz Bedene faces Damir Dzumhur in the second match on court before Jerzy Janowicz plays the Frenchman Lucas Pouille. Madison Keys is the final player on court when she takes on Camila Giorgi.

Best of the Rest

The doubles draws begin on the outside courts on Wednesday but there are still some decent players dotted around in singles action. Gilles Muller, Elina Svitolina, Fabio Fognini and the French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko are just some of the seeds who are scheduled on the outside courts.

Men’s Betting

I’m going with two bets in the male draw on Wednesday. I’m convinced Andy Murray is not even close to full fitness and while he had enough to come past Alexander Bublik in the first round Dustin Brown is a different proposition. Brown has beaten Rafael Nadal on this court and is comfortable on grass. I don’t see the dreadlocked German winning this match unless even I have underplayed how bad this Murray injury is but Brown could win a set and if he does that the 7.5 game start he is getting will be too big.

Lucas Pouille is the fast upcoming French hope and while he is perceived to be better on other surfaces than this one he showed in Stuttgart last month that he can play on grass. In that tournament he beat Feliciano Lopez in the final and we’ve seen him gone on to win Queens since. Pouille faces Jerzy Janowicz on Wednesday and while the Pole has to be respected on this surface the all-round game of Pouille is far superior. If Pouille can get the serve back into play regularly enough he should win most of the rallies and can cover 3.5 games.

Women’s Betting

I like two in the women’s draw too. I backed Elena Vesnina to win a match in the French Open when she was written off and overpriced and I can’t resist a little dabble for her to see off Victoria Azarenka. It is good to see the Belarussian back. I like Azarenka despite the pain she causes my ear drums but she is only just back and looked very rusty in the first round and I fancy the more battle hardened Vesnina can come through here. The Russian was a semi-finalist here last year so she can play on grass and at nearly 2/1 the price is all wrong.

Bookmakers are expecting a tight match between Madison Keys and Camila Giorgi but I’m not convinced we will get that. Keys has had her injury issues but she is good on grass with her serve a huge weapon. I’m not convinced Giorgi is going to be able to push Keys back in this match so I’m expecting a pretty swift finish just like the last two meetings they have had, both of which have gone under 20.5 games. This can too.
