2017 Wimbledon Tennis – Day 7 Betting Preview

The second week of Wimbledon begins with one of the best days of the Grand Slam year when all 32 remaining singles players battle it out for spots in the respective quarter finals draws. Weather permitting Monday will be the final day the men and women play singles on the same day.

By the end of the day we will have the quarter final line up in both singles draws but there is plenty of thrills and spills and unrelenting drama to come before that is determined.

Saturday Recap

The really big names all made it through on Saturday. Some made it through easily such as Novak Djokovic, Dominic Thiem and Roger Federer while others such as Caroline Wozniacki and Angelique Kerber were made to really battle. Their success ensures we have some great matches on Monday.

It was another frustrating day for us betting wise. We landed a handicap punt with Shelby Rogers but for the fifth time in this tournament a player we’ve backed served for a set at 5-3 up only to be broken and lost 7-5. Annoying.

Centre Court

Five time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams opens up the day on Centre Court when she faces the talented youngster Ana Konjuh and then all eyes will be on Andy Murray as he continues his title defence against Benoit Paire. The match of the day rounds off proceedings when Grigor Dimitrov takes on Roger Federer.

Court 1

Jo Konta will put the British crowds through the ringer first up on Court 1. She takes on Croline Garcia before two huge male stars take centre stage. Rafael Nadal is the first of them. He faces Gilles Muller in an awkward looking match while Novak Djokovic closes the deal when he takes on Adrian Mannarino.

Court 2

There is a brilliant schedule on this court on Monday and it begins with the tie of the women’s draw as Angelique Kerber goes up against Garbine Muguruza. Victoria Azarenka battles Simona Halep after that before Milos Raonic faces Alexander Zverev in the final game.

Court 3

Agnieszka Radwanska and Svetlana Kuznetsova battle it out to begin with on this court on what is a really strong schedule here too. Coco Vandeweghe and Caroline Wozniacki follow them before Dominic Thiem and Tomas Berdych finish off the action in what should be a great men’s match.

Best of the Rest

There are four other singles matches around the ground on Monday. Out on Court 12 Jelena Ostapenko meets Elina Svitolina in what should be a great match for that court. Roberto Bautista Agut and Marin Cilic is the other game on that court while on Court 18 Magdalena Rybarikova takes on Petra Martic before Sam Querrey and Kevin Anderson go at it.

Men’s Betting

I’m going with two bets in the men’s draw on Monday. In the match of the day I expect more than three sets. If this was last year or the year before then Roger Federer in this form could be expected to take care of Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets but I don’t see that being the case this year. Dimitrov seemed to come of age when he went all day and all night against Rafael Nadal in that epic Australian Open semi-final and some of the tennis he has played this week has been of the highest quality. Federer is playing well but Dimitrov is too. I would be surprised if this doesn’t go to a fourth set.

In the men’s match on Court 2 I think Alexander Zverev could be a big price to see off Milos Raonic. Raonic has a booming serve and a big forehand but Zverev doesn’t lack in those areas and in the rest of the game he is much the better player. This is clearly going to be something of a battle but I don’t think the German will mind that. Zverev made the final in Halle so we know he can play on grass and given the form he has shown this year I think he can see off last year’s beaten finalist.

Women’s Betting

I’m going with two in the women’s draw too where I anticipate a couple of very close matches. The match out on Court 12 between Jelena Ostapenko and Elina Svitolina should be a corker. Both ladies are hitting the ball well and I don’t see this one being won quickly. Whoever does win it could hold genuine title claims and over 21.5 games looks the way to go there.

I am also expecting a lengthy and high quality match out on Court 2 between Victoria Azarenka and Simona Halep. These two have been around for a while and know what is needed in the second week of a Slam. I was worried heading into the third round that the matches could catch up with Azarenka but the longer she was on court against Watson the better she played. Halep will go all day with her energy reserves so I fully expect a battle royale there.
