2017 Wimbledon Tennis – Day 8 Betting Preview

The fourth round of Wimbledon concludes on Tuesday at SW19 on a day where the quarter finals of the women’s draw will also be played out. By the end of the day we will know the men’s quarter final line up and the semi-finalists in the women.

Day 7 Recap

Monday was billed as Manic Monday and it did not disappoint. It was the day where the big names began to fall in what was an epic day of tennis. First to go was Elina Svitolina and she was quickly joined by Angelique Kerber before the biggest shock of the lot took place when Gilles Muller dumped Rafael Nadal out in a four-and-a-half hour epic, Muller winning 15-13 in the fifth.

Elsewhere there were easier wins for Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Marin Cilic, Simona Halep and Svetlana Kuznetsova while Jo Konta battled through as did Tomas Berdych, Milos Raonic and Sam Querrey who all went five sets.

It was another frustrating day for us betting wise as we came one game short in the Azarenka match and lost a five setter with Zverev. We have a number of outrights still running though so hopefully they can come through and we come out of this tournament with someone to show for our efforts.

Centre Court

Those who have tickets for Centre Court on Tuesday have a bonus match for their money as the Adrian Mannarino vs Novak Djokovic match which was unable to be played on Monday gets to open proceedings on Tuesday. They are followed by Venus Williams and Jelena Ostapenko with Jo Konta playing Simona Halep to round things off.

Court 1

Just the two women’s quarter finals are to take place on this court on Tuesday with the first of them being between two Grand Slam champions as former Wimbledon finalist Garbine Muguruza takes on Svetlana Kuznetsova. The second match sees Coco Vandeweghe going up against the one remaining unseeded player in Magdalena Rybarikova.

Betting

There are two bets for me on Tuesday and both come in the women’s draw. I didn’t fancy anything in the men’s match on Monday and I still don’t despite the extra 24hrs. Both my bets are on Centre Court. I don’t need to bet on the Vandeweghe match as I’m on her to win her quarter at 15/2 which is effectively 15/2 to beat Rybarikova.

In the first match up the French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko is showing no signs of slowing down. Some of her shots against Elina Svitolina on Monday were sensational and while you couldn’t describe her game as a percentage one there is little doubt it is effective. Venus Williams has come through the draw nicely but if her age is going to catch up with her it could be here as her movement is going to be severely tested. I’m not sure she will have the mobility to cope with the power coming over the net at her so I’ll side with the Paris champion in this one.

The second match on Centre looks a humdinger between Jo Konta and Simona Halep. Halep will go to world number one if she wins here while Konta is trying to be the first Brit to win the title on 40 years so the pressure will be tantamount and the drama likely to be high on top of that. Both their previous meetings have gone the distance and I fully expect this one too as well or if not the distance then two tight sets. Over 21.5 games looks the pick in this one.
