2017 Wimbledon Tennis Men’s Final – Marin Cilic vs Roger Federer Betting Preview

The Wimbledon men’s final takes place on Centre Court on Sunday afternoon with a legacy looking to be crowned when Roger Federer takes on Marin Cilic in the title showdown. These two are meeting here for the second successive year.

Federer beat Cilic here last year in a five set epic of a quarter final and goes in search of an EIGHTH Wimbledon title in this match. Cilic will be looking for his first title at SW19 and his second Grand Slam in total after he won the US Open in 2014.

Marin Cilic

The Croatian star is enjoying an excellent grass court season having made the Queens final and now the final here. His last two matches have been brutal epics after he went five sets with Gilles Muller and four deep sets with Sam Querrey but he was playing his best tennis at the end of both clashes which bodes well.

Cilic has served really well in this tournament but the real eye catching part of his game has been his ability in his ground strokes and if he can continue to hit the ball as crisply as he has been doing then he is going to take a lot of beating in this match. He has little to lose too which could be another reason why he’s a danger.

Roger Federer

The legacy of Roger Federer is already cemented in this game but he has a chance to put a cherry on top of it in this final by becoming the first player to win eight Wimbledon titles. He has looked magnificent in this tournament so far. Any superlative you want to use would be applicable such has been the way he has played.

Federer is yet to lose a set in this tournament so far and looks to be in even better form than he was earlier in the year when he won the Australian Open. It looks like giving the grass court season a miss has given him another lease of life and he is clearly aiming to take full advantage of that. He looks as good as ever.

Head to Head

These two have met on seven previous occasions with Federer leading the head to head 6-1 although the one Cilic did win will have been hugely significant for him as it was in the semi-final of the US Open the year he won it. He won that in straight sets but Federer has won their other six although only one of his last four wins have been in straight sets.

Betting

If you followed me in from the start of this tournament then you will have betting slips with the names of both Roger Federer and Marin Cilic to win this final on them as they were both advised in our outright preview before a ball was hit so we can largely sit back with our feet up and wait for our cash to land.

With that in mind I wasn’t going to bet on this final but there is one that has jumped out as being overpriced that I am going to chance my arm with and it is the 13/8 on the first set ending in a tiebreak.

Three of Federer’s last four sets in this tournament have been won on the tiebreak and three of his six matches have gone the distance in the first set. Cilic went to a breaker in the first set of the semi-final and the way both are serving and backing up their opening delivery I can see this going the distance in the opening set too just like their meeting last year did.
