2017 World Championship Snooker – Day 11 Betting Preview

We are down to the quarter finals of the World Championship now and the line-up for the last eight could well be the best there has ever been. All four matches get underway inside the Crucible Theatre on Tuesday with high quality snooker almost guaranteed.

The last eight cast list includes three former champions, two previous finalists and a couple of World Championship semi-finalists so the cream has well and truly risen to the top.

Day 10 Recap

It was another successful day of betting for us on Monday as all three bets we had on the Marco Fu vs Neil Robertson match landed when Fu came through 13-11 having hit the fourth century of the match midway through the final session. That rounded off a successful round of betting for us.

Elsewhere on Monday, as expected there were easy enough victories for Mark Selby and Barry Hawkins. They won all three frames played in their matches to see off Xiao Guodong and Graeme Dott by identical 13-6 scorelines.

Ronnie O’Sullivan vs Ding Junhui

The pick of the quarter finals gets underway on Tuesday morning before resuming on Tuesday evening and drawing to a close on Wednesday afternoon and it sees Ronnie O’Sullivan taking on last year’s beaten finalist Ding Junhui.

This should be a cracker between the best player in the game who seems to have the bit between his teeth and arguably the best scorer in the game who has had to come through a titanic tussle so should be battle hardened.

I’m expecting a high scoring game here and the even money on Ding hitting more than 1.5 centuries looks too good to ignore. Ding has made three tons in each of his matches so far while Gary Wilson banged in a couple of tons against Ronnie earlier in the tournament. Ding will get chances and I think he can maximise at least two of them.

Kyren Wilson vs John Higgins

There is a clash of generations in the other match to begin in the morning session as Kyren Wilson takes on John Higgins. This match begins in the morning on Tuesday before a second session in the evening on Tuesday and then it concludes on Wednesday.

I’m already on Kyren Wilson for this match having backed him to win the quarter before the tournament although I readily accept he is a huge underdog here. I think I’ll let that bet ride and assess the start of the match before getting involved in it again.

Mark Selby vs Marco Fu

The first of the afternoon quarter finals is a repeat of last year’s semi-final as the defending champion Mark Selby takes on the man he beat in the last four in Marco Fu. This one starts on Tuesday afternoon before returning Wednesday morning and then concluding on Wednesday evening.

This looks like being a real battle. Their semi-final ended 17-15 last year and I fancy they will play out a tight match here. Fu has shown this week he has no quit in him and while I don’t think Selby has been at his best this week yet he never knows when he is beaten either. I don’t see this one being won easier than 13-9 either way so the over 21.5 frames is almost a no brainer.

Barry Hawkins vs Stephen Maguire

The last quarter final should be another good match. Former finalist Barry Hawkins takes on one of the biggest underachievers in the game in Stephen Maguire in a match which begins on Tuesday afternoon before continuing on Wednesday afternoon and concluding on Wednesday evening.

Maguire has cruised into this stage of the tournament dropping just five frames in two matches while Hawkins has been relatively convincing himself but I don’t see this one being one-sided in any way. I wouldn’t be surprised if these two go deep on Wednesday evening given how well both are playing.

Also given how well the two are playing I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some really big breaks here. Maguire is a heavy scorer anyway while Hawkins generally ups his game the longer he is in this thing. I can’t call the match but over 22 frames and over 2.5 tons look good bets here.
