2017 World Championship Snooker Qualifying – Day 7 Betting Preview

We’ve reached the real business end of the World Championship qualifying event and Tuesday and Wednesday certainly won’t be for the faint hearted as the 32 remaining players do battle for the 16 spots in the main draw at the Crucible Theatre.

All 16 matches play their opening session on Tuesday and then come back to finish on Wednesday which is being dubbed Judgement Day.

Monday Recap

Monday was a good day for our bets as both advised punts won! Ben Woollaston eased past Ken Doherty while Hossein Vafaei continued to enhance his reputation with a win over Matt Selt to deliver good profit for us on the day although that was tempered slightly with the leftover bets from Sunday both losing.

Monday saw the end of the season for the likes of Reanne Evans, Anthony Hamilton, Alan McManus, Sam Baird and Oliver Lines as the carnage continued to ensue at Ponds Forge.

Morning Session

Although World Snooker’s coverage of this round is taking in all of the tables on their Facebook Live show we can be certain that Martin Gould’s match with Yu Delu will be on one of the featured tables. The other one is likely to have the match between Michael Holt and Peter Ebdon which should be interesting.

On the outside tables we will have Michael White facing Gary Wilson while Yan Bingtao meets the Swiss amateur Alexander Ursenbacher. Li Hang will be the final hurdle for Stephen Maguire to overcome in his quest to qualify. Thai hope Akani Songsermsawad will face David Grace with the latter eager to win in front of a relative home Yorkshire crowd. Luca Brecel meets Dominic Dale in an appealing match with Rod Lawler taking on Jimmy Robertson in the other game.

Afternoon Session

Mark Williams is the big name in action in this session and his match against Stuart Carrington is sure to get plenty of the coverage on the live streaming. Mark King and Xiao Guodong are also likely to feature a lot.

Away from there Dave Gilbert will face a Fergal O’Brien who didn’t get through until 2.30am on Tuesday morning so the Irishman will have it all to do. Tom Ford battles Hossein Vafaei, Lee Walker meets Noppon Saengkham, Ben Woollaston plays Zhou Yuelong while Jamie Jones faces Graeme Dott and Rory McLeod goes up against Hammad Miah.

Betting

I’m already on Michael White and Hossein Vafaei for these matches having backed them to qualify before the event but I like four others from the beginning on Tuesday.

The first of those is Dominic Dale who has played some good snooker to see off two live opponents so far. He now faces a Luca Brecel who never got going against Joe Swail in the previous round but somehow made it through. Dale has already beaten Brecel this season and if he continues his form of the last few days I fancy him to win here.

Peter Ebdon looks overpriced to see off Michael Holt. There is going to be a lot of nerve and tension on display over these two days and when the pressure is cranked up there are still few who handle it as well as Ebdon. He is a master of it whereas Holty, for all he has improved in the last season or two, still has doubts over his temperament. Ebdon has scored well this week which bodes well but if it gets scrappy you would fancy him even more. He’s worth a go in that one.

Jimmy Robertson is another who has scored well in this qualifying event so far and if he continues to do that he should have too much scoring power for a Rod Lawler who has outlasted a couple of opponents to date but who hasn’t done a lot more than that. Robertson might have to be more patient in this match but the chances will come and if he is ready to take them when they do it is down to him whether he wins or not.

In the afternoon session I think Jamie Jones is a nice price against Graeme Dott. Dott seems to enjoy the longer formats but I think this format suits Jones too. Jones went in here off the back of a good recent run in Gibraltar and has continued his good form this week. I think he’ll have too much scoring power for Dott which should see the Welshman through.
