2017 World Cup of Darts – Day 1 Betting Preview

The World Cup of Darts begins on Thursday evening in Frankfurt with the top half of the draw being played down to the last 16 stage. That means we will have 16 nations up on stage looking to book their spot into the weekend’s fun and frolics.

In among the sides on show we will see star names such as Gary Anderson, Peter Wright, Simon Whitlock, Kim Huybrechts, Gerwyn Price and Mark Webster in what should be a solid night of pairs arrers.

Early Matches

We get underway with a battle between Thailand and Greece. You wouldn’t think those two sides will go far but there is £2,500 for the winners so it is worth winner. That is followed by Hong Kong facing Russia in a 50/50 looking match. Republic of Ireland and Poland meet in the third match of the night before an interesting clash between Japan and Spain.

Later Matches

The final four matches are where the stars come out to play. Belgium go up against New Zealand in a match which could be closer than it looks before our tournament fancies Australia do battle with Denmark. The evening concludes with Scotland meeting Singapore and Wales taking on an underrated Finland side.

Betting

Right throughout this tournament I’m not going to get too involved in the betting. This is very much a tournament to watch and try to enjoy rather than load up with bets but if there is one thing guaranteed in this format it is that shocks will take place. It is picking them that is the task.

I’ve a feeling we might see a really big shock on the opening night. I like New Zealand to see off Belgium. Belgium have an excellent record in this tournament but nothing lasts forever and that is certainly the case with the form of Ronny Huybrechts which has to be a real concern.

For New Zealand, Cody Harris can really play and he’ll do some damage in time and hopefully here while Rob Szabo has nabbed a set off Phil Taylor in a World Championship before. If Ronny underperforms and piles the pressure on Kim it could easily go wrong for Belgium in a best-of-nine pairs match so at a shade over 3/1 I’ll take my chance on New Zealand.

Tips

Back New Zealand to beat Belgium for a 3/10 stake at 4.20 with Bwin
